Sounds like another one of those "Kim Jong Il is dead" news. Just my personal 5 cents. If you use your common sense then you will come to the conclusion that any detail of the meeting between Kim and Hu, given the security and secrecy present, won't be leaked to outside news networks. Besides I'd expect to hear it from bigger news networks if such news were true.

nothing unusual. i dun think any weapon agreements will ever materialize cuz china doesn't even want to sell anymore weapons to nk and potentially upgrade the maddog's capabilities in any way.

I know that giving bombers or cruise missiles to NKorea will provoke pro-US country around China like SKorea and Japan and US itself, but I think China surely needs good arming ally in this region, regarding Taiwan issue if pro-US country around China join forces with US against China. It happen in Korean war remember? if there is war in this region, caused by NKorean provocation or Taiwan issue or South China conflict or Eastern China conflict with Japan, China will troubled without nearby kick-ass sidekick.

I also think so.

Well, that being said, China needs allies that can help in times of need, not those who might shoot China in the foot, inadvertently or not.

When NK requests weapons from China, they are not asking to buy them, rather for China to give them those weapons for free. Hell, China will probably also end up paying for most if not all of the operating expense of fuel and spares as well.

Given a choice between a few extra squadrons of JH7s in PLAAF/PLANAF service or in NK service with China footing pretty much the same bill in either case, it is really a no brainer which Beijing would go for.

Just my opinion... it is pretty stupid to give away equipments, no matter how insignificant those items are to any third party countries unless they could afford to buy it from you at full cost.

One option that I believe China would be taking was to request their troops to be stationed in NK. If NK need those equipments to protect themselves, then with very well armed and equipped Chinese troops in their country, it would give them the necessary security and China could use this small country as a leverage to other pro-US nations.

But why would China want to do that? It would be unpopular everywhere.

The North Koreans would loath the presence of foreign troops, just like how the Japanese hate having US marine bases near them. The US, Japan and South Korea would be up in arms. Even people inside China will be unhappy as it would seem like a waste of resources.

In terms of strategy and policy, having Chinese troops in North Korea would limit and constraint China's political and military options, not increase them.

As things stands, if hostilities break out and China want's in, North Korea would throw open the boarder and let any and everything the PLA wants to send in through.

But having troops stationed in NK would make it very hard for China to 'opt out' if hostilities break out for the wrong reasons, and the PLA troops stationed in NK could easily find themselves shoved into the firing line to do North Korea's fighting for them.

The last thing you want to do with a half crazed already far-too-aggressive-and-unpredictable-for-anyone's-good government like NK's is to encourage them with direct military support and your own troops to be used as shields to cover for any craziness they might get up to.

What would happen if NK sell land to China, just very narrow land, perhaps 20km wide, so China would have access to Sea of Japan and have 20km coastline there and new fleet and port there.

Would dear Kim do that, for perhaps $20B ? paid by hard cash, weapon, training, factories, infrastructure, highways, railways, airports, schools, universities, etc.

Some of you may think it is a crazy idea .... remember Alaska ?, Russia sold it to America, so it happened before ... and it is legal
