Apparently up to 96+ Su-35s would be purchased in lieu of the canceled J-11D. The termination of the program has nothing to do with the so-called "successes" of the J-20 but rather the failures and delays of the J-11D project.

This leaves me wondering even more what access China has to the initial batch of 24 Su-35; the systems and the ability to sling their own munitions. Because if China really did give up on J-11D in lieu of a much larger follow on order of Su-35, then I would assume at a minimum they will be able to integrate their own comms and weapons, otherwise it is a massive mistake that I cannot see the PLAAF making.

Are we still in the Flanker-thread?

Actually some people here are working on a Mach 3 Chinese Flanker, that cruises at 80,000 ft with 4, count em 4, WS-15s....... so we should move this discussion to the aerodynamics thread of the 6 Gen thread, I'd just toss the dice to decide???

Yes, that's the curious bit ain't it? The PLAAF has been very deliberate and careful in the past about these matters. It would be extremely unusual to see them misstep in such a way now.

Gents, the SU-35 is gonna be the A2A go to bird in the SCS, possibly the ECS, flying alongside and in addition to the J-11s A and B. I would point out that while our F-15C are old and will require a SLEP to remain viable, these aircraft are relatively new, and exponentially superior to last generation Chinese fighters?

and you're right, there's no way the J-10 is going slot into this long range interdiction role. What is the point of overlooking the obvious? President Trumps election and the placement of Trump people at the top has brought about a Paradigm shift in the US China policy.....

President Trump will be hosting emperor XI at Marilago, we all better be praying that they hit it off, and are each on desirous of backing off this "collision course" that we are on... Chinese expansionism occurred due to Barack Hussein Obama's weakness and lack of resolve to back up our Asian Pacific alliances with action..

So, if Emperor Xi chooses to stay the course, and push expansion and militarize these islets in the SCS, and to prod the Japanese??, he's gonna need Flankers to push on out past the first island chain, he's gonna have to get serious building the J-20 in numbers beyond Chengdu's rather leisurely rate....

and we might as well be prepared, the Trump team is ready and willing to engage in order to put the brakes on this expansionism. This will no doubt have a negative effect on the Chinese/US relationship which I believe most of us woud agree would be a gross negative for each of our nations?

I realize there are some on each time who are enjoying this, but trust me, no good will come of this "contest of wills".

Gotta love it. Seeing some beautiful pictures of Chinese flankers. All of sudden we have off-topic political flame bait from the usual suspect.

I suggest we revive the forum junk section so that people can talk about stuff like Emperor Xi, Barack Hussein Obama and maybe add a Russian plant Donald Trump. Stuff about how China should know its place, US imperialism, fetus killing in China, police brutality in US and whatever perceived injustices that run contrary to one's political and religious view.

In that way, the rest of us can enjoy reading about exciting Chinese military development undisturbed.

Finally, in order to minimize misunderstandings with members having trouble with sarcasm, this post contains a heavy dose of sarcasm.

China might be unable to produce enough J-15's and J-16's and j-11's and that is enough reason to buy the excellent Su-35. No reason to built another Flanker batch production plant.
But that decision had not yet been taken when the J-11D development was initiated.

My own thought is that SAC will be helping to increase production of the J-20, that will be be the critical need that cannot be attained anywhere else, to beat on Chinese Flankers and lay this as a problem for SAC in no the problem. Chinese Flankers are in many ways superior to Russian Flankers for Chinese purposes!
