AFAIK, this su-35 sale was just for engine tech grab. The russians wanted to sell more, but the chinese wanted less. So IDK why suddently the chinese would want more. Besides, the russians have been quiet about it.

Buying SU-35 for access to engine technology is an assumption that may or may not be warranted. Moreover, we can not say for sure if the said access to engine technology could be the major reason or just a by-product of the Chinese purchase of SU-35.

Strategically, Chinese may feel pressured to bulk-up PLAAF and hence I think another order for SU-35 is plausible.

OT:
@SinoSoldier has talked about re-fueling probe & JF-17. Its important to note that with limited internal fuel capacity, a re-fueling probe was planned early on and the necessary plumbing was designed from the start. We just started seeing it now, and even that in limited numbers to show that it shall be installed as per need only.

The JF-17 Block 1 was able to be retrofitted with a fueling probe, so I'd imagine that adding one to a new J-11B derivative would be easier.

Rumor has it that the Russians had refused.
Not necessarily. Being bigger and more capable also means greater complexity.

According to a recent Article on Chinese Air Force Modernisation plans , Team SJ has summarised key and crucial points .

>J-11D production has been delayed and it's in flight testing phase currently . More Modifications are expected to airframe and engine.

>J-10D is in R&D phase and will take some years to show up.

>The SU-35s China bought were meant to fullfill the delayed production of J-11D (Chinese SU-35 counterpart) . 4 have been delivered in 2016 and another 10 are expected by end of 2017.

>More SU-35 Orders "Can" be expected.

>J-11D Compared to SU-35 has many advantages and some disadvantages .

Advantages of J-11D : #1 J11D has AESA radar comapred to Passive phased array radar of SU-35 and can outperform the Russian radar.

#2 The Chinese weaponry associated with J-11D such as Short/medium range A2A Missiles and domestic munitions are far better than SU-35 offerings .

#3 The Digital Fly by wire system is expected to be better than the one on use with SU-35.

Disadvantages Of J-11D : #1 SU-35 has modified fuselage , different from any flanker to reduce RCS , increase range and payload , extended airframe life , and can suit more tasks compared to J-11D

#2 Engine reliability and lack of TVC on J-11D which will be soon introduced in Chinese airforce by 2019 . The engine is expected to enter mass production soon.

>J-20 has been officially Inducted and its task is to counter F-22/F-35 While J-10 and J-11/16 and all other flankers in service can take on other 4/4.5th Gen jets in service with USAAF / US Navy.

>The existing J-11B Are expected to recieve an upgrade for radar and other crucial Avionic systems .

where there any problems with the airframe/engine or they just decided to modify stuff in the plane? Regardless, delaying the j-11D is not good for chinese air force.

SU-35 has modified fuselage , different from any flanker to reduce RCS

How so?

The engine is expected to enter mass production soon.

what kind of engine is it? ws-10B ?

Sounds like it was extracted from the article posted earlier.

It's suprising that the J-10D is still in early stages of development, since recent "hints" from observers have led many to think that its appearance would be just around the corner.

I let's him to you ...

Where did you get all this BS. FYI China has no problem exporting HQ 9 It entered the Turkish competition for missile defence and won It was the only system that has 100% hit rate beating patriot and S300. It was drop due to western NATO opposition and the Chinese reluctance to give up the source code

SU 35 was imported due to delay in the production of J11D. I don't know if India can manage Super Sukhoi when they have trouble even maintaining SU30MKI imported 15 years ago, with operation rate of less then 60% and 5 or 7 known accident sofar.

Kolkatta class was launched 10 years ago and sofar they manage to commission only 2 meantime China has commission close to 12 Now can you tell me which country is more efficient?.
Type 52D has 68 HQ9 with AESA radar so it is not behind Kolkatta class. Kolkatta is built with more than 50% imported component

There are now more than 400 copies of WS 10 flying around for at least 5 years with no known accident And every year there are at least 2 regiment of J 16 built equipped with WS10. It is more than statement

Show me the number of J11B with engine accident in the form of Photo or report NONE sofar
There is report the other day that they produce 36 J 16 and 10 J 15 So that make 2 regiment genius!
They don't built J11B anymore now as I understand it

Two great looking aircraft. I have to say, the Su-35 Flanker (as well as all Flanker family) is beautiful aircraft. Truly a marvel and breath taking when it takes the skies. An amazing piece of engineering and design by the Russians.

J-20 is yet another beautiful looking aircraft. It's sleek contours and balanced airframe design is a testament to the great strides China has taken in the past decades.

A tribute to all aircraft designers, aeronautical engineers around the world!
