Yes I know, since the tail I cut out is exactly from this image ... my questionmark was only meant to denote if the J-11D seen by these latest high-altitude test is 11D2.

By the way I noticed the absence of this small rectangular - I think it is some sort of formation light - on the tail of maybe 11D3.

Well, I have to say, given what the PRC has done with their "Flankers" over the years...it is very impressive.

They bought SU-27s and SU-30s and look at what all they have done with that seed pool.

J-11A/B/D
J-15
J-16

Always improving what they got to better meet their requirements and exceed the capabilities of the original aircraft they purchased or license built.

All the while building up their own aviation industry to produce things like the J-10, the JH-7A/B and now the J-20s.

Not to mention other areas, like what they have done with the TU-16s to eventually get to the H-6K, which is very viable and workable even today, and is so much more than those original Tu-16s ever thought about being.

Yep. pretty impressive history in all of that.

, suggesting an improved fire-control system with new software and hardware. This may have been the result of assistance from Ukraine or Belarus.

Initialy 45 last on 105 J-11 build are designated J-11A new modernized also now.
But IIRC J-11A can initialy engage 2 targets simult vs 1 for Su-27SK, J-11 all not capable use R-77.

Edit :
I have radar Phazotron N001 Mech for Su-27SK, J-11
and Phazotron N001VE Mech for J-11A

Aside from the J-7s, J-8Is, and early Su-27s, are there any other fighter planes within the PLAAF inventory that are incapable of firing actively-guided medium range missiles?

Is SAC just building J-11B variants and J-15's these days as J-16 is delayed due to radar issue's and J-11D is still in development.

Does anyone know what kind of radar Shenyang has selected for the J-11D ? The same radar from their pals at 607 institute ?
