J-16 Strike Flanker (note the blue afterburner plume, which is indicative of a new fuel mix)

actually just a more efficient fuel controller, I believe that is what you are trying to say??? think acetylene torch, reddish yellow flame of rich mixture when you initially light, changing to nice hot blue flame as u reduce the acetylene and increase the oxygen, you "tweak your flame" to weld or cut with different tips for shaping of the flame, heat the metal with the blue hot flame, and add oxygen which gives the torching that wooshing sound as you cut, very hot flame able to cut metal, lower temp flame for "welding".

Thanks for the insight, AFB. If this engine is indeed more efficient than previous iterations of the WS-10, which spew out orange plumes, then it could be indicative that the J-16 uses quite a recent variant of the WS-10 (perhaps the rumored 140 kN version used on the J-11D).
