The only flanker variant i see China wanting from Russia its the Su-50, and i dont think that would happen (unless India ditches them)

Simply impossible! Even before China had J-20 when it was offered an opportunity to join the T50 program, it opted not to join. With J-20 about to be on line, it is absolutely impossible for China to "want" T50.

BTW, I am back (after weeks of grant-submission season...)!

And Houston is flooded again!

I would like to see a Airborne Electronic Attack (AEA) variant of the Chinese Flankers.

I think it could be based on the 2-seater J-15S, and it would be a Chinese version of Boeing EA-18G Growler.

This AEA variant would first be deployed on China´s carrier(s). But soon also in PLANAF landbased units, and in PLAAF.

Basically all fighter divisions and ground attack divisions (including non-Flanker units) would have access to a (small) number of these AEA aircraft.

Yes, we have talked about an electronic version of the two seat J-15S for a good while here. But to date, we have not seen it happen.

The PLAN is busy working up the first full squadron of single seat J-15 aircraft on the aircraft carrier, and they are doing that very carefully and very methodically.

If they are indeed building another carrier as we speak (and I believe at this point that they probably are), they are going to continue having their hands full at current production rates for the J-15 to build another full air wing of single seat aircraft for that carrier.

So, though we have seen the prototype J-15S, I am still waiting to see a second one...or two or there...and see them being flight tested.

If and when they do begin serious development of the two-seat aircraft...where do they gpo first. There are three clear versions possible.

Training, Fighter/Attack, and electronics. Which do they do first...and then in what order?

I think they may focus first on the fighter/attack version...sort of like the F/A-18F Super Hornet. I also think that ultimately that all of these may happen.

Right now, other than the prototype, they we have not seen progress towards any of these.

Time will tell.

Can you tell us where you got this rumor from?

From what is circulating in the rumor mill, the J-15S will enter service with an AESA while all J-15s produced in or beyond the second batch will also have AESA.

I do not believe he indicated it was a rumor or something he heard was going to happen.

He said, "I would like to see a Airborne Electronic Attack (AEA) variant of the Chinese Flankers. I think it could be based on the 2-seater J-15S.."

In other words, he is just telling us what he would like to see.
