May be Shenyang wants to compare notes with Knaapo Sukkhoi.
Or may be PLAAF/PLAN wants to have a capability gap filler before next generation comes.

Or it is a fishing scheme for various new technology.

who knows.

I don't see China buying those any time soon... buying weapons primarily means you give your (tech) competitior another push on your expenses. You don't do it unless you must. And Su-35 is not a must for PLAAF now and today.

...unless, unless this SAC s***** up somewhere big time, again, and is looking for an easy way out.

On SAC: it should be sacked and broken down and sold to the highest bidder of the potential new entrants of the market ( say high IQ ZAC- Zhejiang or FUC - Fujian?) . SAC is dragging the leg of China's overall competitiveness as it shows no a shread of sign of innovations compared to CAC but only upgrading knockoff airframes of the 80's. China should let SAC die, but quickly.

The mood here would be totally different if what we are waiting for is not another "controvertial" Sukhoi flanker out of SAC's long and distinguished archive of knockoffs in coming September, but a breath of fresh air out of ZAC or FUC for instance, well, that depends on who is FUCing... nonetheless, SAC's, or ex-SAC's, campus on the other hand, is ideal for farming Siberian chickens on an industrial scale, IMO.

The question we should be asking is whether this deal is real...

so what is the ramification if it is real?

china prob asked for 117 engine and russians don't want to sale it with out a fighter package to sweeten the deal.

48 x 2 x spare factor = 200-300 117 engines

plus other things like radar.

So you have a bloodier way to kill it?

it's worth less in parts than whole.

why is every one hating SAC.

is there any chance that this deal will go through? highly unlikely

The usual tabloid stuffs from Russian media.
They've already added the excuses like IP protection to save face when nothing happens.
No deal signed because we want to protect our 'super-advanced' Su35 technologies, not because it's a piece of you know what. LOL.

This deal claim by Russian will never go thru. China will never buy Su-35. It doesn't fit their plan now. Plaaf are now standardise their datalink and weaponry. Buying Su-35 will be like out Of this world. After so many years of hardwork of getting Chinese weaponry. Suddenly you go back Russian and mess up yr logistic again.

This is just an desperate attempt by Russian to smear china.

So what, the PLAAF wants Su-35 just for the engines and avionics? We know the PLAAF can locally source avionics on par to or superior than what Su-35 is offering, currently or in near future. Even if they wanted the engines or avionics uninstalling and reinstalling onto indigenous planes would take much time and effort and not exactly deliver a good finish either.
The case gets even worse if one suggests the PLA wants to RE the Su-35's subsystems because of similar reasons.

The only reasons for why this deal might be real is to keep military to military ties with russia or to have planes capable of firing russian munitions still in PLAAF storage. But even that's a massive stretch.

I think china will come out in a week or so and clarify the situation (i.e.: not happening). The idea of PLAAF commiting to even a relatively small purchase of foreign fighters is mind boggling.
