Reports and photos from Russian "Periscope 2" website on April 26, recently appeared over the Internet forums showing a domestic aircraft carrier electromagnetic launch system prototype. Its designer Ma Weiming, for the successful production of the system, has been given high recognition by the Central Military Commission. It is also speculated that China's future domestic a/c carrier might be nuclear-powered

According to Russian media, China's aircraft carrier electromagnetic launch System Designer Ma Weiming in 1982, graduated from the people's Liberation Army Navy Engineering College and in 1996, obtained a PhD from Tsinghua University. He is now an engineering professor at the People's Liberation Army Naval Engineering University. He is also a famous expert on submarine motor-power supply and in 2001, was elected head of the Chinese Academy of Engineering for his achievements . In recent days, his involvement in the development of the aircraft carrier's electromagnetic launch system has been applauded by the Central Military Commission.

It is learnt that China's aircraft carrier electromagnetic launch system exceeds 100 metres in length with a complex system of linear induction motoring, power and command components. The energy storage device can power up within 45 seconds to launch ship-borne aircrafts. To ensure the successful takeoff of the heaviest planes, the launch system uses approximately 120 megajoule of energy- not including energy storage devices that can store up to an additional 140 megajoule of energy. Charging power of the launch system is 3.1 megawatts and even when taking energy losses into calculation- it will be not exceed 4 megawatts. Altogether with 4 sets of electromagnetic catapults and other systems, China's a/c carriers need at the most up to 60 megawatts of energy. With all these indications, china's future a/c carriers may well be nuclear-powered.

Of course they develop EM cats. Now let they bend them to fit them into a ski ramp.

yea true, this is US EMALS, only US has the intelligence to make these weapons, others are too dumb.
this is why US will rule the world for the next 100 years, no one will catch the hyperpower that is the US.

only US should be allowed to make such advanced weapons. because only US is the super duper megapower that is super invincible and untouchable.

china will never catch the US, such advanced technology is beyond chinese.

no need to be sarcastic my friend.... I don't think anyone is implying that China can't or won't keep up the technological gap BUT rather in this particular article the pictures shown are rather disingenious because they NOT pictures of Chinese EMALS system but rather they are US ones. That's all.

At least two of those photos dont appear to have been taken at china. Barring that GE photo already shown in this forum, we cant conclude that any of them were taken at china.

The top photos doesn't correlates with the bottom photo alright. The curved metal building is no where to be found on the emal pic of the runway, who knows, maybe it's retractable.
