The Zhaogao-class was original designed as large customs cruiser. They belong to the customs, and are subject to the Coast Guard. It is written everywhere they are 056 based, but they are some what larger, have another power plant, slower speed and was designed by another design office as type 056.
Three units were built and no further are planned, so far as known.
launched comm.
Hai Jing 46104 10.11.14 26.03.15
Hai Jing 44103 06.04.15 12.01.16
Hai Jing 33103 20.12.15 29.01.16

The so called 054 based ships are Type 818. Four units are planned so fa as known.

All these ships are built at Huangpu guangzhou

Thanks for the infor.

But I am really curious, who named this class? First of all, officially China only name her ships as "Type 123", the names of class are all given by foreigners and re-imported by Chinese enthusiast. This particular name "Zhaogao" does not sound very well, the only famous or to be exact infamous person whose name could be spelled as "Zhaogao" is 赵高, a treacherous eunuch of the Qin dynasty who was notorious in forcing the legitimate heir "Fusu 扶苏" to commit suicide and placed the cruel "Huhai 胡亥" to the throne, eventually lead to the fall of Qin.

So far as I know the class names came from the US Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI).
I have no idea on what criteria the names are chosen or what they think doing.

the Coast Guard has 390 ships over 20 m length and about 150 boats under 20 m.

In addition there are the vessels of the other non-Navy organizations:
CMS 159 vessels
FLEC 209 vessels
Customes 84 vessels
MSA 370 vessels

Dear emmemm, would be nice if you could share the above info (detailed list) with the members since, seems you have an extensive data.

I tried earlier to search for the details but couldn't succeeded.

This is a collector activity over many years. The are hundreds and thousands of pages, tables sketches and photos. You can not really expect that I throw it all on the table here. The data are derived almost exclusively from public-access sources on the internet. Since you have to do a little already own.
I like to answer questions, give information on specific topics, and so on.

These ships were sighted within 12 nautical miles of the Diaoyu Islands today.

Hehe, that explains my wondering. Only ONI knows why they used "Zhaogao" or what do they mean by "Zhaogao", after all, it is only a latinised spelling not really Chinese.

Have China CG its own fleet of dedicated helicopters ?
These units are clearly on operation (near to a potential "hot spot") and their helo deck (for those fitted with one) remain empty.
The two ships with helodecks also has a hanger, unless a flying operation is being prepared you won't see the helicopter on the deck. We cannot confirm whether they are carrying a helicopter just by looking at these pictures.

They do put Z-9 on some of these ships.
