just a simple question .. as CCG budget is not part of PLAN budget (I believe it's part of ministry Land and resources budget), do you think CCG just receive ex PLAN ships for free or with some sort of compensation?

Anyone thinking of starting a Chinese Blackwater? There are so many trouble spots and conflicts around the world, I'd imagine there is an acute shortage of training soldiers for hire...:D

On a more serious note, I really doubt organised crime is anywhere close to that vast in China to need or be able to absorb anywhere close to 300k trained soldiers.

The odd bad apple might go work for criminals, but the vast majority would find other, productive and lawful ways to reintegrate into normal civilian life.

Also, it should be noted that this cut was not decided on a whim.

The decision would have been made probably years in advanced, with all the necessary ground work done well in advanced of the announcement regarding who to cut, how to do it to minimise disruption to units as well as how to best in-integrate all the men being released.

The release date is also likely to be gradual, and not done overnight.

I would expect the bulk of the cuts to be done through retirement and consolidation, where troopers scheduled to leave are released, and just not replaced with new recruits. Some units will probably be disbanded, and their remaining strength absorbed into other units.

The PLA does have past experience of this kind of thing, having made far larger cuts when they first started their modernisation.

PAP budget is bigger than PLA ... a bit strange they get free stuff from PLA

No it isn't. The combined public security bill which includes the PAP, local and national police, prison services, emergency services, customs, etc, is only barely higher than the combined defence budget. They made a song and dance out of it a few years ago, when that sort of budget allocation is entirely normal all over the world.
