Contradictory, indeed!
I just consider the number of aircraft in this reported deal, 20, to be an unusual number of aircraft for an air force to order. I could, very well, be incorrect, but aren't air squadrons usually equipped with ~12 aircraft + ~25% for attrition? And, Argentina doesn't need additional trainers as the FAdeA IA 63 Pampa is still in service.

As I mentioned early in this thread. As long as Cristina is Presidente we will hear or deals and rumors of deals, but nothing will materialize. Not until there is a new President.

The Uruguayan Naval Aviation denies that the A-109 helicopters option is its favorite

rnza.jpg

(Defensa.com) While it is recognized that a US proposal was put to the Ministry of Defence to acquire AgustaWestland A109E helicopters used, from the US Coast Guard, doubting even the dependence finally going to act on that option, hierarchies of Naval Aviation clarify that although they were reviewed by staff of General Maintenance body some of these specimens months ago, it never requested the High Command of the Navy, which was confirmed by the Head of Public Relations thereof.

The alternative, "is far from being the preferred versus other models of far greater reach and versatility, even in the same Agusta," referring to the AW-139 and 169, which does cater to new Uruguayan territorial aspirations of Directions to 350 nautical miles SAR jurisdiction and responsibilities of the country, today not very well attended. At all times the Naval Aviation studied medium and no light helicopters, as would be the AW-109, with the lowest evaluated comprehensively the SH-2G Seasprite- then acquired Peru but not missiles and other weapons systems to lower the final price.

Originally, from a technical point of view, the Naval Aviation was decanted from the new models of Agusta, especially the AW-139 (although if OPV small size it chose, should be the AW-169) or some series of Sikorsky S-76, having a moderate expectations for the proposed new EC-175 Airbus Helicopters. Autonomy, avionics and time between inspections (TBO) europeas.Una options would favor high naval source said the virtual option would AW-109 "(and if materialized, probably because defense or give course ...) A sort of plan B, a consolation prize if no money for anything better, something not very desirable. "

In terms of IPOs, in turn, Lurssen OPV 80, 80 in Antarctic Fassmer version -of much tougher than the original hull, pretty questioned (reinforcement could also slightly penalize its initial performance) and P-18 N Chinese are the candidates, and being almost ruled the DCNS Gowind. For the latter, and discarding of the naval gun up its offer with Z-9 helicopters, Chinese imitation of EC -365, both the AW-109, as the S-76 or -169 AW be tolerated indoor units, bearing little more than five tons copies, having rejected extend it to receive, in relation to Argentina, Sikorsky Sea King. These nuances technological issues within the Uruguayan Navy reveal actually very bounded hopes for the coming months sufficient resources for its three main projects: OPV, middle SAR helicopters and surveillance network Costeria certified by IALA VTS, all facing the biggest Uruguayan maritime responsibilities in recent and coming times, as well as the constant disagreements and frictions with Argentina in the field.
