Found this interesting piece in the latest edition of Eurofighter World as part of the Typhoon programme's pitch to the Middle East and Far East. The author sweetly praises the F-22 Raptor, before bringing it down. :)

Pure marketing I guess since J-20 nor T-50 are even finished and operational..

Seriously, is such blatant marketing articles worth even the time and effort to read?

BAE should also find better puff piece writers, as the person responsible for the above piece cannot even get his grammar right.

As Gen 4 and 4.5 goes Typhoon is in MHO The top of the class but against a top gen 5 the only real advantage it has is numbers that being that the Eurofighter is likely too be and already is too some extent a top seller for those who need a new fighter but are worried about there budget. She could be so so much more though if they added thrust vectoring and put the hull though more stealth, a Silent Typhoon could be a terror.

Swiss technical evaluation doesn't agree with this

"Rafale and Eurofighter showed generally better performance than the F/A-18, Gripen worse"

"The performance of the Gripen in air-air engagements as well as attack missions was insufficient"

"The most limiting factors of the Gripen design were the operating time, the flight performance and the maximum weapon load"

"The Rafale is the only aircraft that has met the requirements of the Air Force in all types of applications"

in my opinion, Eurofighter might at the end of the day being able to beat 5th generation fighters, all these so called stealth fighters are low observable, but not invisible to radar, but here the question lies on what radar type, power density increases each day, so in my opinion more advanced radars will render shaping and RAM obsolete sooner or later.

Stealth only works as part of a system where jamming, radar silence and the range of a radar system is known.

If a stealth fighter loses its cloack of invisibility, then supercruise kicks in, in 1990 well F-22 was absolutely supreme but these days you have fighters with supercruise and thrust vectoring without too much low observable features like Su-35S or Eurofighter, these fighters once detecting the fifth generation rival are on par with them.

early this year, article claim that JSDAF planning to purchase eurofighter to counter PLAAF J-20.
possible if the USAF abandone F-35 project.

Great!

Actually, I was thinking the other way around - He who the client buys this kind of storey (it is a marketing trick, after all), shows the promise of its own intellectual marvels.

Edit:

Ooops, just saw #6.

Ya better watch out, my Typhoon Euro fighter can kill, stealth fighters be damn (pun intended of course)!

@Mig 29 Gen five fighters have no Cloak of invisibility ( yet but with the work on adaptive camouflage ) they utilize shapes designed too deflect and absorb radar signals so then enemy misses them in the clutter. Active Jamming is more and more turning too a weakness because of the next step in a gen 5 fighter Sensor fusion. this is the process where in the Aircraft using Passive Radar Warning receivers, Infrared Search and tracking and a low probability of intercept AESA radar all mated too a number of super computers feeding there information too the pilot can detect the location of both active jammers and Radars. In other words a A gen five detects not just the enemy but his systems searching for him. In fact The next Generation American Medium range missile is supposed too be dual role serving too replace the Ammram and HARM systems. Super Cruise is actually not unique too Gen fives and is not even a fixed demand on some check lists the Typhoon can super cruise for example.
all super cruise is is the ability for the craft too go sonic and super sonic with out afterburner there by saving on IR signature and fuel.
The Prime Factors of the Gen 5 as the Us check list goes are, advanced RCS reduction ( using internal weapons carry). Sensor fusion with passive and LPOI systems, and advanced maneuverability.

In my opinion, Eurofighter and even Su-35S will be around for a couple of decades more for the following reason:

how is a J-20 going to detect and down a F-22 or a F-22 down a T-50?

The answer is they have to detect the other stealth fighter via IRSTs or Radar sensors, it means somehow they have to detect the rival, these technologies can be fitted unto the Eurofighter and Su-35S
.

Missiles are the same., they need sensor that feed up information. Sensors is the magic word.

read this:
Airborne detection of stealth aircraft may already be an operational capability. In a series of tests at Edwards AFB, Calif., in 2009, Lockheed Martin’s CATbird avionics testbed—a Boeing 737 that carries the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter’s entire avionics system—engaged a mixed force of F-22s and Boeing F-15s and was able to locate and jam F-22 radars, according to researchers. Raytheon’s family of X-band airborne AESA radar—in particular, those on upgraded F-15Cs stationed in Okinawa—can detect small, low-signature cruise missiles.
