Cambodian-Thai border started gunfire

I suppose the only friend Cambodia has is Vietnam, and a quarrel with Thailand is not something it would want.
I totally agree with Spartan95. Perhaps Cambodia can leave a token force in the area and take the matter back to the Court in The Hague.

While Vietnam's invasion back in the 70's-80's are viewed as liberation (liberating the Cambodians from the Khmer Rouge's bloody reign), it's still a sensitive issue and getting Vietnam involved again would be very touchy at best, worse this'd risk to escalate the conflict...

With Vietnam now eager more for economic development, dragged into another war is the last thing they'd want.

Well, this thread has been quiet for about two months and now it is provoked again. The Cambodian and Thai soldiers exchange fire again this morning at Taman Thom temple near Preah Vihear.

Cambodian, Thai troops exchange fire again at border area
Friday, 22 April 2011 02:22 DAP-NEWS

Cambodian and Thai troops exchanged fire again at Ta Mon Thom temple and Ta Krabek temple around 6 a.m. Friday, Cambodian military commander said Friday.

Neak Vong, deputy commander of brigade 42 at Ta Mon Thom temple, said that all kinds of weaponry have been used.

"Now the exchange of fire between Cambodia and Thai troops is continuing," he told Xinhua by telephone, with the sound of explosions also heard over the phone.

The two temples are located in Oddar Meanchey province, about 200 kilometers west of the disputed temple of Preah Vihear.

"All types of heavy weapons, including rockets, machine guns and mortars, and artillery have also been used in the exchange of fire," he said.

"As the fight goes on, we don't have any immediate report of casualties yet," he said while commanding troops in the battle.

The military clash reoccur just more than two months after the deadly clash on Feb. 4-7 at the border disputed area next to Preah Vihear temple, the World Heritage Site.

While the fighting is still going on, the sources declined to comment on the motive of the clash.

The border between Thailand and Cambodia has never been completely demarcated and the issue of Preah Vihear temple has been an age-old dispute.

Cambodia's Preah Vihear temple was enlisted as World Heritage Site on July 7, 2008. Just a week after the enlistment, a border conflict arose between Cambodia and Thailand due to Thai claim of the ownership of 4.6 square kilometers of scrub next to the temple, which triggered a military build-up along the border, and periodic clashes between Cambodian and Thai soldiers have resulted in the deaths of troops on both sides. I hope Cambodia and Thailand will settle it peacefully.

I wonder what the late king of Cambodia is going to say to china. I think he tours china regularly for his medical check ups.

I also wonder if Cambodia is going to deploy their commandos there too. Then we can see some type 81 and QBZ-95 action.

Excuse me for my limited knowledge in English; so far as I know the word "late" might means has passed away or dead. I prefer saying the former King...

Cambodia did deploy their 911 commandos (some of them are equipped with Type-97) at the border but these are not the front-line soldiers. Those who fight are the former Khmer Rouge soldiers who are battle-scared in guerrilla warfare.

It should be battle-scarred (experienced in battle) not battle-scared (afraid of battle?).

You are excused for your limited knowledge of English :)
