PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 5, 2016) Royal Air Force test pilot and Squadron Leader Andy Edgell enters the cockpit of an F-35B Lightning II aircraft equipped with inert 500-pound GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided test bombs on the flight deck of amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) during flight operations. The F-35B short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) variant is the world's first supersonic STOVL stealth aircraft. America, with Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron 1 (VMX-1), Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 (VMFA-211) and Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 (VX-23) embarked, are underway conducting operational testing and the third phase of developmental testing for the F-35B Lightning II aircraft, respectively. The tests will evaluate the full spectrum of joint strike fighter measures of suitability and effectiveness in an at-sea environment. A question for my good friend Obi Wan. Any idea why the nose gear door is shorter than the nose gear bay itself, on this Typhoon?

rhC8F3A.jpg

the text where this picture was posted on another forum suggested "heat dissipation",,, could be, but I'd like to hear the "official version?? sometimes gear doors are limited in length by the landing gear structure itself???

There is a large heat vent on the side of the fuse ahead of the leading edge, there are also "vents" in the upper inlet housing along the side of the forward inlet???

At the very least, the picture is a good illustration of the old saying; "Measure twice, and cut once..."

There ya go brother, I think you nailed it??? cutting costs??? It does surprise me, that as fast and high altitude as the Typhoon obviously works, maybe it is a massive avionics cooling vent, kinda like the old "road draft tube" on small block Chevy's, actually probably all high performance engines have some crankcase blow-bye.

So you've got to keep those avionics "kool" they do NOT like heat, or moisture?? The F-35 uses "fuel" in those pipes running through the tanks where the kool fuel in the tanks acts as a "heat sink" for the avionics???

By Toby Melville and William James | LONDON
Five people were killed and about 40 injured in London on Wednesday after a car plowed into pedestrians and a suspected Islamist-inspired attacker stabbed a policeman close to Britain's parliament.

The dead, in what police called a "marauding terrorist attack," included the assailant and the policeman he stabbed. The other three victims were among those hit by the car as it sped across Westminster Bridge before crashing into railings just outside parliament.

Prime Minister Theresa May condemned the attack as "sick and depraved".

"The location of this attack was no accident," she said in a statement outside her 10 Downing Street office late in the evening.

"The terrorist chose to strike at the heart of our capital city, where people of all nationalities, religions and cultures come together to celebrate the values of liberty, democracy and freedom of speech."

Any attempt to defeat those values through violence was "doomed to failure", May said.

Mark Rowley, Britain's most senior counter-terrorism officer, told reporters the attack started when a car was driven over Westminster Bridge, hitting and injuring members of the public and three police officers.

"A car then crashed near to parliament and at least one man, armed with a knife, continued the attack and tried to enter parliament," Rowley said.

He said the police's "fast-paced investigation" was working on the assumption that the attack was "Islamist-related terrorism". Police believed they knew the identity of the attacker but would not provide details at this stage, he said.
