Hyper Volocity Projectiles. The HVP is a next-generation, common, low drag, guided projectile capable of completing multiple missions for gun systems such as the Navy 5-Inch, 155-mm, and future railguns. Types of missions performed will depend on gun system and platform. The program goal is to address mission requirements in the areas of Naval Surface Fire Support , Cruise Missile Defense, Anti-Surface Warfare and other future Naval mission areas. Mission performance will vary from gun system, launcher or ship. HVP’s low drag aerodynamic design enables high-velocity, maneuverability and decreased time-to-target. These attributes coupled with accurate guidance electronics provide low-cost mission effectiveness against current threats and the ability to adapt to air and surface threats of the future.

Newly upgraded Warrior vehicles take part in a live firing exercise with the Mercian Armoured Infantry Company, at Castlemartin in the United Kingdom. Following the exercise, the modified and up-armored Warriors were deployed into Afghanistan with troops from the Mercian regiment. The Warrior is the only tracked infantry vehicle in theatre and so can get to places that wheeled vehicles cannot, enabling the infantry to engage the enemy more effectively in difficult terrain.

The Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) conducted a parade today (Saturday 2nd August 2014) to celebrate the formal amalgamation of the 1st and 2nd Royal Tank Regiments, as it reorganises as part of Army 2020.

In July 2012 it was announced that as part of the restructuring of the British Army, 1 RTR and 2 RTR would amalgamate to form the Royal Tank Regiment. The new Regiment will be comprised of 3 Main Battle Tank Squadrons (AJAX, BADGER, CYCLOPS), a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Area Survey and Reconnaissance Squadron (FALCON), a Command and Reconnaissance Squadron (DREADNAUGHT) and a Support Squadron (EGYPT).

Hundreds of family and friends and former RTR personnel watched the event in Bulford, Wiltshire, which was attended by Lieutenant General Chris Deverell MBE, Colonel Commandant of the Royal Tank Regiment. Highlights of the parade were a working model of a First World War MK IV tank from the film War Horse and a dramatic smoke-filled dash across open ground on to the parade square by five Challenger 2s.

Raf a400m atlas

The aircraft, which has until now been known as the A400M, will replace the RAF’s existing C-130 Hercules fleet and, along with the Voyager and C-17, will provide the UK military’s future air transport force. The UK is buying 22 of the aircraft from Airbus Military, and the first Atlas is expected to be delivered to the RAF in 2014. Able to carry twice as much as the Hercules, Atlas can transport 32 tonnes of cargo over a range of 4,500km, providing unprecedented capability to support the UK Armed Forces. It can move up to 116 paratroopers and large armoured vehicles such as Mastiffs as well as vast amounts of humanitarian and disaster relief. The aircraft’s ability to land on semi-permanent runways and rough ground means Atlas can fly its cargo into the centre of operations, supplying tactical forward bases or evacuating casualties or refugees.Atlas, together with the C-17 Globemaster, C-130J Hercules and the new Voyager aircraft now entering service with the RAF, will give us the ability to rapidly move people and equipment around the globe for military and humanitarian operations for decades ahead.

No 51 Squadron

Boeing RC-135 is a family of large reconnaissance aircraft built by Boeing and used by the United States Air Force and Royal Air Force to support theater and national level intelligence consumers with near real-time on-scene collection, analysis and dissemination capabilities.

The procurement of the United States Air Force Boeing RC-135V/W Rivet Joint aircraft as a replacement for the Nimrod R1 under Project AIRSEEKER is well advanced.

51 Squadron personnel have completed Conversion Training at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, USA. For the last two years, qualified UK personnel have been flying alongside their US counterparts on Rivet Joint operational missions, bringing with them years of accrued knowledge and expertise. This transition period, known as Co-Manning, will allow a joint US-UK approach to operations which will continue up to and beyond the delivery of the first Rivet Joint, therefore, keeping 51 Squadron at the forefront of operations.

Never has its motto ‘Swift and Sure’ been more appropriate, and No 51 Squadron continues to have a significant military impact on national and international issues of critical importance.
