We are doomed!
Not a big deal, Obama and Al Gore still own $20M beach houses. Until those guys decide to sell and move inland, the rest of us got nothing to worry about

If it was such a big deal, Leo would stop flying private jets and mega yachts to global warming events and start planting trees instead.

If you track GHG emissions vs global population, it is actually a pretty strong correlation. If everyone is so worried about global warming, they would actually do someone about it instead of trying to shame everyone else to do something. Or have a global 1 child policy.

When it comes to climate change, the Western culture is divided into two camps: the ones who deny it, and the ones who pretend to want to do something about it. However, just because the latter are hypocrites does not mean global temperatures are not rising.

We are already way past the stage any individual actions can make a difference. The only solutions forward must be made from top down. We need ecologically designed cities, mass relocation, weather manipulation, terraforming, and of course renewable energy.

Population is a double edged sword. Yes, more people means more emissions, but if you look at emissions per capita, countries with smaller populations have higher per capita emissions, so population density is actually a good thing. The humble elevator is the most energy efficient means of transportation. A high rise is far more ecological than 50 acres of urban sprawl.

Low population countries like Canada are also cold, so requires heating in winter driving up GHG. And until you can convince everyone that having a yard is bad and move into an apartment, nothing will change.

I don't deny there is climate change, it's been changing since the last ice age ended, I just don't care because it doesn't actually effect most people.

"Green renewable energy" is not very renewable, most of it is hype. For every solar and wind farm, there needs to be a NG or coal plant to support it when there is no sun or wind. Nuclear is the way to go, but people is too scared of old nuke plants when new designs have none of those problems.

And if you add in the total GHG for solar and wind (including the mining and manufacturing of components) like they like to do for O&G, they are actually pretty close.

Nuclear energy is definitely the way to go, and we need to build more high density housing while protecting green spaces. People are not going to be convinced to go for those solutions, which is why it needs to be implemented on a policy level, and of course that's not going to happen as long as we have a political system that's based on a popularity contest.

Like I said, it's either denial or pretend.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, in Canada anyway, it's a very car focused culture. Calgary, where I live is the same area as greater Tokyo, basically 35 km x 45 km ish. Tokyo got 30 million people, Calgary got 1.3 million. Everyone wants the biggest land/house they can afford or bank is willing to lend them. When the city expands, public transportation can't keep up, beacuse u can build subway lines and buses to places 25 km out from downtown for 2000 people in a far off neighborhood with the taxes we collect.

It needs to be a total cultural mindset change. But the people complaining the loudest are also not taking action, and contribute to this just as much. They will blame us in O&G for making gasoline, but they are the ones buying the 1 ton pickups.. so very hypocritical. This is why those of us here in western Canada don't care about this whole global warming stuff.
1) it's cold here in Alberta/saskatchewan
2) people still want our products, even when they complain about and pretend like they don't want it.
3) the ones complaining are not practicing what they preach, so we don't see why we need to change the supply side.
