Small countries always have respectful fear of their superpower neighbors. It's up to China to show them that their future is better following us than being a pawn to the West.

Definitely not true for all Vietnamese. I know a few who are not like that at all and know one who is very pro China. Although it is unfortunately true for the majority of Vietnamese. This came about during the Sino-Vietnam war over Cambodian Pol Pot support. Big blunder by the CCP to support a genuinely crazy leader but the CCP from those years was not far off on the crazy scale.

Now the relations are kept sour by the SCS and island/sea disputes. Removing these two factors, there are no reasons why Vietnam and China would not be great allies.

I do not know many Vietnamese except for a few Vietnamese descent HK resident that I had met while in HK. I was actually very surprise to hear that they are very antagonistic towards Chinese and hated being in Hong Kong. Always thought these was a few ungrateful exception but now I wonder. It was almost like they felt cheated and resent being stuck in HK while many of their compatriots managed to find refuge in US and Europe. These is likely why we see so many US and UK flag during these protest.

Yes, and not only that, they started to equate people leaving "China" and why do they want to leave "China" as in China must be bad if all these people would rather risk their lives to leave China!

And did we get apologies? You know the answer, problem is the average Joe had already seen the original assertion. And now that's what they believe!

What was great was the BBC later that evening ran with their darling Kirsty, and she asserts that, and I quote:
We wont get much info from China because is a secret states.... blah blah.

So all of a sudden, from 39 innocent deaths, that's got nothing to do with China, to all fingers point to the oppressive state, China! And it is all China's fault!

I don't think you are historically correct. Viet Nam's hatred to China go back a long long time ago.

And this dosen't even register a mention from the MSM. However, if it was China, it will get reported as another shining example of the coming collapse of China!

    Got it in one!

I'm old enough to remember the "boat people" crisis! At the time, I remember that ALL the boat people wanting to be "rescue" by western ships!

And those ones made it to Hong Kong demanded that they are re-settled in a western country!

So, it has nothing to do with persecution at all, it was purly economics! And those ones got settled in Hong Kong, like Joshua Wong and Denise Ho, have resented it ever since. That's gratitude for you!
