one step forwards... 80 years back...
better save up the internet bill is going to jump big time.
A similar law was introduced several years ago and dire results were predicted. They didn't arrive. Prices remained about the same and speed increased because there was sufficient competition. A different result might occur in US because in large areas competition is minimal. That is already the explanation given for the low average speed in that country.

The murder of a politician is clearly not in the interest of the authorities. But he was organizing a demonstration on Sunday that has now be cancelled. Some people might have thought that a dead politician was better than a very small demonstration. On the other hand if a large demonstration was expected, to be increased by the death of a martyr, it wouldn't have been cancelled.

didn't know the demonstration was cancelled, but if it was then it must have been a combined result of government warning and lack of preparedness of the organizers themselves. afterall they didn't expect this murder to have taken place and almost certainly did not contemplate the prospect of presiding over a street demonstration that is now a political dynamite.

Here's a BBC article on it. I watched CCTV last night they say the authority will allow maximum crowd of 50,000.

Thank you for posting Byron, seems that men and women everywhere continue to value their freedom to stand against what they perceive as evil, the size of this crowd would lead us to believe that an injustice has galvanized these to put aside their fear, and step out for justice!
prayers for Mr. Nemtsov's family and friends, as well as for the Russian people in their sorrow.

So I think that proves the point quite succinctly.
Twenty thousand marchers in Moscow and a few thousand in St Petersberg. Remember of course that most of the Moscow marchers were already assembled for the original pre arranged march.

A Politician who was truly "leading and prominent" would have got at least ten times that number in Moscow and large demonstrations in all other Regional Cities as well.
It just shows that behind the hype, he was a fringe party leader with a little residual gravitas from his time in office last century and of course a lot of friends in the media abroad.

Rather more interesting is the reports of the arrest at the March of Ukrainian MP Alexei Goncharenko, who has been arrested in connection for being an organiser of the Odessa massacre last year
