Some common sense from Prime Minister Cameron. Hail Britannia! We need some of that in the States.

Wealth is not a “dirty word”, David Cameron said last night as he finally sought to fightback against a growing "lynch mob" unleashed in the wake of disclosures about the Prime Minister's financial affairs.

Mr Cameron yesterday defended the right of “aspirational” British families to earn money.

Mr Cameron, who became the first Prime Minister to publish detailed records of his own tax payments, defended the “right of every British citizen to make money lawfully” and said parents who give large financial gifts to their children should be “proudly” supported by the Government.

His intervention came as Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party sought to turn a row over the Prime Minister's finances into a wider issue about the taxation of wealth and entrepreneurs.

The Labour Party has called for a review of inheritance tax rules and higher taxes on the "rich".

The Labour leader disclosed yesterday that he has no savings whatsoever and his personal finances are almost entirely funded by the state - in the form of his salary and generous gold-plated pension.

Downing Street was previously accused of fuelling the Labour anti-wealth agenda by promising to crack down on tax avoidance - and publishing the Prime Minister's tax records - rather than speaking up for the benefits of enterprise and wealth creation.

However, in an unprecedented Parliamentary appearance to tackle questions about his own finances, the Prime Minister finally sought to espouse Conservative values.

But, he was warned that his decision to publish his tax returns has already prompted a “witch-hunt” against MPs.

hours after Downing Street said the information should be made public.

Minutes later Boris Johnson published details of his earnings. Labour has in recent days called for all MPs and ministers to publish their full tax returns.

but faced embarrassment after it emerged that he had been fined £100 for completing his forms after the January 31 deadline. Other Labour MPs - who also rely almost entirely on the state to survive - also began releasing details of their own returns.

Senior Tories last night warned that the “genie is out of the bottle” and said that MPs from all parties will now feel compelled to make public their private financial information.

Mr Cameron published six years of tax returns after he last week admitted that he had personally profited from his stake in an offshore investment run set up by his late father Ian.

after his mother gave him £200,000 following the death of his father.

Last night, Mr Cameron backed the right of middle class British families to “own shares and make investments to support their families”.

“This is a Government and this should be a country that believes in aspiration and wealth creation – so we should defend the right of every British citizen to make money lawfully,” Mr Cameron said.

“Aspiration and wealth creation are not somehow dirty words – they are the key engines of the growth and prosperity in our country and we must always support those who want to own shares and make investments to support their families.”

after Labour said it would review inheritance tax rules in the wake of the row over Mr Cameron’s gift from his mother.

He also told MPs that his “father’s memory was being traduced”. Mr Cameron said: “On the issue of inheritance tax there is an established system in this country – rather than people being embarrassed about passing things to their children by wanting to keep a family home within the family, I believe it is a natural human instinct and something that should be encouraged.”

Mr Osborne and Mr Johnson’s tax returns disclosed that they both benefit from lucrative outside earnings to supplement the salaries they receive from their elected offices.

Mr Cameron said he believed there was a "strong case" for the Prime Minister, leader of the opposition, chancellor and shadow chancellor to make their tax affairs public, but did not think the same should apply to all MPs.

"If this were to come in for MPs, people would also ask for a similar approach for those who ask us questions, those who run large public services, or lead local government, or indeed those who edit the news programmes or newspapers," he said.

"I think this would be a very big step for our country, it certainly shouldn't take place without a long and thoughtful debate and it is not the approach that I would recommend." Senior Conservatives on Monday warned that there will be a significant backlash if MPs are forced to publish their tax returns and said that backbenchers would quit.

Two Russian attack aircraft made over 30 passes at this destroyer. Several of them were like this...dangerously close to the point, IMHO, of being reckless.

You have two aircraft, each worth a few millions, and four pilots, hazarding a 1.5 billion dollar ship with almost 400 people aboard.

The US needs strong leadership who delivers strong back channel messages to the Russians, as well as official protests that say essentially.

Enough. If future attack profiles like this fly at our ship and the pilots neither respond to or break off when contacted, we will light them up with guidance and targeting when within a certain distance. If they continue, with the attack profile and dangerous maneuvers past that point, we will shoot them down in self defense.

And then seek to establish a frame work for Cold-War type confrontations that limit each side to understandable terms like that.

You simple cannot allow this to continue, A mistake by one of those pilots could have crashed the aircraft into the ship, severally damaging the ship and killing many sailors. IMHO, that kinds of chance and reckless behavior has to be spoken to directly.

The SPY 1d can easily fry the avionics on the fencers flying this close but emitting full power may also allow the russkis to have a read on the capabilities as well albeit at a lost of their pilot and aircraft.
Russian flyboys are known for pulling these type of antics nothing new however this is quite close and totally unnecessary.
You can still show off your stunts and still be smart about it. Don't fly so close next time otherwise someone may accidentally forgot to unplug R2D2.

Saudis warn of economic reprisals if Congress passes 9/11 bill

(CNN)Saudi Arabia is warning it will sell off billions in American assets if the U.S. Congress passes a bipartisan bill that would allow victims of 9/11 and other terrorist attacks to sue foreign governments.

Saudi foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir issued the warning to U.S. lawmakers last month during a visit to Washington, two senior State Department officials told CNN. A source with knowledge of the Saudis' thinking said investments would be put in jeopardy if this bill passes, so they are trying to protect themselves from risk.

The story was

Saturday by The New York Times.

The Obama administration has, in turn, applied heavy pressure on Congress to block the bill. Top officials from the State Department and Pentagon warned Senate Armed Services Committee staffers last month that the bill could bring economic risks to the U.S.

The Saudis did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Asked if President Barack Obama would veto the legislation if passed by Congress, a senior administration official told CNN that "rather than entertain a hypothetical, we believe there needs to be more careful consideration of the potential unintended consequences of its enactment before proceeding with legislation."

"We would welcome opportunities to engage with the Congress on that discussion," the official added.

In February, Secretary of State John Kerry said the legislation could "expose the United States of America to lawsuits and take away our sovereign immunity and create a terrible precedent."

The bill, co-sponsored by Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-New York, and John Cornyn, R-Texas, opens the door for families of 9/11 victims to sue foreign states and financial partners of terrorism.

Former Sen. Bob Graham, the co-chair of the 9/11 congressional inquiry, told CNN's Michael Smerconish Saturday morning that he is "outraged but not surprised" by the warning from the Saudi government.

"The Saudis have known what they did in 9/11, and they knew that we knew what they did, at least at the highest levels of the U.S. government," Graham said on "Smerconish."

9/11 is by far the significant event since WW II in terms of terrorists attack and causing fundamental change in global security and rule of law. The American people need to know the whole truth. If the highest levels of Saudi government were involved then so be it. OBL is but a puppet. I believe there are many more individuals that were pulling the strings.

China has been releasing water from a number of its dams in an attempt to help relieve the drought in Southeast Asia.

Much of the region has been struggling to cope with the severe weather which is hotter and drier than usual because of strong El Nino.

in more than a decade with 14 out of 76 provinces badly affected.

The situation in Vietnam is not so good either with the country suffering its worst drought in 90 years.

Rice crop has been decimated across central and southern parts of Vietnam and around 1.8 million people are facing water shortage.

China has been partially responsible for the dire situation across the region.

However, release of the water is having little or no discernible impact as it dissipates into the massive delta region that is home to almost 20 million people.

At least 39 hydro-electric dams are currently under development in the region, most of them in southwest China.

In addition, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos have plans to build 11 new dams, potentially affecting 82 percent of the Mekong River's water.

Thailand has also turned to its Royal Rainmakers for help - they are the Thai Department of Royal Rainmaking and are responsible for seeding the clouds over the kingdom.

As of now, there have not been enough clouds to make this an effective process.

Environmentalists also observe that there is less fresh water for drinking and irrigation, thus endangering agriculture downstream.

Nevertheless, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang insisted that the dams will remain open throughout this period of low water. Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar will all benefit, according to Kang.
