(July 24, 2018) Naval ROTC midshipman candidates practice handling training M9 Beretta 9mm pistols in the USS Missouri Small Arms Marksmanship Trainer at Recruit Training Command (RTC). More than 65 young men and women entering their freshman year of the NROTC program participated in a two-week pilot program designed to provide standardized entry-level militarization and prepare midshipmen with a common training orientation. PACIFIC OCEAN (July 24, 2018) Quartermaster 1st Class Mikayla Lovette acts as lee helmsman aboard guided-missile destroyer USS Preble (DDG 88) during a replenishment-at-sea with Royal Canadian Navy supply ship MV Asterix during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, July 24. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world's oceans. (July 18, 2018) Aviation Machinist's Mate 2nd Class Casey Ginley, a water survival instructor at Recruit Training Command (RTC), instructs recruits on emergency saftey procedures before a 3rd class swim qualification at the USS Indianapolis pool. Recruits are required to pass the qualification in order to graduate from boot camp, which includes a 10-foot platform jump, 50 meter swim and a five-minute prone float.
