I am not referring to the intergrity of the equipment or how good it is. The Australian armed forces has proven its bravery and fighting skills on every theatre it fought on. I am referring to to the programme management F ups it had, refurbishment of the Seadprite helicopter, the Collins class submarine, the tiger helicopter, the latest issue with the Canberra, the purchase of the Abrams, the building of the first Horbat class destroyer and now this. Every year the amount of tax I pay is not tiny and what had China's submarine noise got to do with this?

The Collins is a good sub now only after having spend billions of dollars to fix with help from the Americans. As for the euro helicopter Tiger to face them out only after 10 years of service is s crime, our public hospitals is busting at it's seams, public schools is short of funding and I pay a massive amount in tax.

Outsider chiming in, @FORBIN I think what Kienchin is saying is, That the whole selection of the platform might have flawed from the start.
The Australian MOD chose the Spanish LCM-1E landing craft being well aware that it was a Abrams army. The Spanish designed there LCM-1E around the M60A3 used by the Spanish Marines Which are than the Abrams, And the M60A3 is basically the same weight as the LCM-1E. So one should have wondered about how well it would have gone.

So perhaps they should have asked for this demo earlier to see how a LCM-1E shuttling a fully loaded Leopard 2E to simulate the Abrams works. This is one of those decisions that you can't really go back on and need to know works. as if it doesn't work that means you have to change something. Either leaving the MBTs at home or buying something else either a lighter MBT like the French Leclerc ( about as light as available off the shelf without special negotiations) or another landing craft like a LCAC or EDA-R

I mean Australia is a Pacific nation if they needed to defend themselves or their interests, deploy due to treaty or peacekeeping obligations they need to do so from the sea.
M1A1 Abrams represents the top MBT in the world. A proven fighting machine with some of the best in class armor crew protection, firepower and maneuver but it's not a light weight That protection comes at a cost of weight, and getting it to the battle demands a lot of forethought.

A new Class in more a DDG for armanet sure for size almost a FFG actuals more big, 3 replace 4 Perry/Adelaide ( the 4th by a futur FFG ) modernised which have nonetheless a decent armament in missiles 36 SM-2MR + 36 ESSMs + 4 Harpoons : 76 missiles !

The 3 later homeported as Perry to Kuttabul/Sydney the main RAAN port

Hobbart have as Sapnish De Bazan same DDG the more heavily armed European combattant
36 SM-2MR + 64 ESSMs + 8 Harpoons : 104 missiles !

But Hobbart is more powerful with new sensors, lauchers despite the number of salvoes is not unlimited but with 108 missiles il à une longue persistance occuper le champs de bataille as a tank with her rounds, magazine capacity
Perry/Adelaide
Mk-13 lauch max 8 miss/mn, 1 radar can engage similt 2 targets
Hobbart
Mk-41 1 miss/sec , SPY-1 can engage simult.18 targets + 1 by SPG-62 so 20 targets

Hobbart have a more big main gun 127 vs 76 mm, both 1 CIWS as perry but much more ESSMs and Perry/Adelaide only better for ASW with up to 2 MH-60R vs 1 for Hobbart, after same for TL ofc Hobbart have more recent sonars.

HMAS Hobart .jpg
Hobbart have in more 1 Phalanx and 2 x 25 mm guns and helo is a MH-60R

it to a long persistence for " occupying the battlefield "
With VLS important coz for reloading it is a problem ! so idealy a combattant of good size need idealy at less 32 missiles, Navies fire in general 2 SAMs vs one ennemy missile as a precaution
coul be eventualy 1,5 if the SAM is good dépends also number in magazines ofc.
Close Yemen USN Burke have each time fired 2 SAMs vs one ennemy missile.
