Are RISC V or MIPS options for Huawei?

How about the joint venture that ARM formed in China, right after Softbank bought ARM? They sold all the patents to that joint venture.

My suggestion to merge this thread into the "Back fire" thread.

Loongson already uses MIPS. Wonder whether they have something for handheld devices.

For the domestic market, Huawei can simply continue with ARM developments. There is not much ARM can do. The ARM SoC will simply be an unlicenced version.

Xiaomi and all other Chinese tech companies will be looking for alternatives in Software and Hardware. They can create in-house SoC and Android folks. In the long run, it is not a bad thing. We saw this with Military developments. Remember the Phalcon fiasco? China has time and time again proved that she can adapt to external pressure.

    OT:

Oh, by the way, this trade war will hurt the US in a big way. Even Republican members of Congress like Dan Crenshaw and conservative commentators like Ben Shapiro are heavily against this "Trade-war". It is actually counter to Capitalism and by extension counter to conservatism. A tariff is a tax on it own population that increases cost of producing something. To save 50,000 workers via tariffs, the US may lose 10 times that in other fields. Just look at what happen to Harley Davidson.

I do belive this will make China stronger in the long run but there'll be pain in the short-term..

That wouldn't be a problem even internationally. As I understand it, a Chinese sovereign wealth fund (essentially) owns all the licences and patents to ARM v8. Huawei and other Chinese companies could independently develop that. Devices that use "ARM-China v9" should be fine to sell anywhere so long as they don't use any new ARM IP.
