I don't play multiplayer, as I only play it during commute: no internet access then. I am having fun with all the campaigns though!

You should try multiplayer. For one the challenges are completely different and more strategic thinking is involved. The computer is a dumb brute that throws wave after wave of units at you while a good human player has more refined methods for taking you down.

Not exactly RTS, though you can try League of Legends and World of Tanks, with both being free to play. I used to play Starcraft I, Age of Empires I and II, Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun and Red Alert.

World in Conflict
Company of Heroes
Commander & Conquer 3/Red Alert 2/Generals
Starcraft 2
Warhammer 40000 Dawn of War 2+Chaos Rising+Retribution (the last one, I do it for Da Waagggh!)

Hmmm...that goes my RTS genre collection; the rest are FPS (think I've just about all the COD series that playable on Win7 platform; modern day MOH series), TPS (Mass Effect 2 & 3) and tons of 18X Japanese games...

The best strategy game IMO is the Civilisation series. I played a lot of Civ 3 and 4 when they first came out, those are still great strategic games today. You have to look after your economy, do trade and diplomacy...which means naturally a lot of back stabbing.

Unfortunately I havent played Civ 5 (came out earlier this year) as I no longer use PCs.

i just tried Wesnoth, feels very similar to some JRPGs, which names elude me
Given i played only a few of its campaign, perhaps there is more to explore

noone mentions RTK series yet?

have anyone played Supreme Commander, a successor to Total Annihilation? it's game as close as you can get to simulate mordern warfare. It has realistic air battles(planes don't just suspend in air) information warfare and strategic missle trades. you need to establish radar survaliance, sufficient airlift to project your ground force and an AA network to protect base. The concepts in this game are years ahead of other RTS. If you played it, SC II would seem like warfare in Napolean era. Anyway, the game is hard to get now it's old and never popular. But it's a RTS you just have to play if you want a game equivalent of modernized war, there is no other game that even come close to it in portraying modern wars.

Yes, the total war series are really wonderful, especially for Napoleon.
So grand battlefiled it present, real-time and landscape also play important roles on your strategy.

In the Total war series, if you managed to block the exit of your opponent's barracks with two infantry blocks (rotated in alternate shift) its going to be a massacre for him.

Anyone here watch the WCG (World Cyber Games) 2012 in Kunshan?
I`ve watched the contests of Warcraft III, SC II, DOTA II and FIFA, very exciting and intensive competition,
especially War3 and SC2, the semi-finals and finals, very recommended.
