Japan has to manage their comprehensive relations with US and China to keep sufficient friction between Washington and Beijing, but not so much where it becomes overheated and leads to escalating tensions.

Events in the DPRK have driven Washington and Beijing closer together, and personal relations between Trump and Xi are framed by Trump as very good. Given that, I thought Tokyo would at least pay lip service to reducing trade surplus with the US. I was wrong; the Abe administration seems to prefer playing hardball on trade. Interesting development.

Too many dollars are created in US that then partly leak into international trade. The problem is an internal US one. But the US government has now been spending money on continuing resolutions and without a legal budget for years said a financial analyst on my favourite radio station last week.

I don't believe Japan can say "No" to the US ..... if they want, the US could get whatever they want from Japan .. perhaps the super expert @SamuraiBlue could give us his/her opinions :p

Please stop your pointless 'Japan this', 'Japan that' rants in every single thread as it's annoying and doesn't add anything to discussion.

Why don't you just give an education proof, not just being emotional adding nothing to the discussion ... I know the truth sometime hurt ;)

Have you ever hear the quote of "The pot calling the kettle black" :p Google can educate you if you haven't

Abe probably feels he doesn't have any good options, because whether Japan says 'yes' or 'no' to the US, the ending might still be the same. I say that because If China doesn't fall flat on its face, it will continue to grow and reemerge to its traditional place atop Asia. US may at some point in the future realign its interests towards China, and away from Japan. It's the fear of US abandonment that will increasingly drive Abe's policies, and that may include saying 'no' to the US.

Abe probably didn't like how the Trump-Xi meeting went. Too positive for his liking especially compared to the coverage with his meeting with Trump. That whole handshake thing and Abe's facial expression summed it all up about who was in charge. Now Japan is going to act out like when Obama was in office.

Wake me up IF that happens.

We all know Japan can't say no to the US except some delusional NEET who still lives in a delusional Doraemon fantasy otherwise the Plaza Accord wouldn't happened. But there is no shame cowering in front of the most bad ass bully on earth. If Brock Lesnar wants my candy I would too give it to him.
