American 6.8MM and Soviet 9MM?

Now, recently I have heard of the 6.8MM, commonly being used as a hunting calliber as well as being used in several carbine models is now being used by police and S.W.A.T in some areas as a tactical marksman's weapon.

Now, here I am thinking that a 6.8MM or anything in the 6MM family would be good for use in the military seeing as it seems similar in concept to the Chinese 5.8MM as being a middle ground between the 5.56 and 5.45 callibers and the 7.62MM rounds.

However, finding little info on it other than very vague descriptions of it's uses and ordering forms I want to ask you guys what the reason might be that military units do not use this calliber (politics included).

And since we are on the subject of bullets: How does the 9MM Russian ammo (used by the 'Groza' assault rifle, as one example) fare in combat?

EDIT: Pardon the use of 'Soviet' in the top name there. If I had an oprotunity, I would have changed it to 'Russian', but just too used to using Soviet.
