All newType-59 thread

The Brits have managed to solve that issue; they use driving bands and sabot carriers on their APFSDS rounds in their rifled 120mm guns. This does however increase wear and tear on the gun.

Never said it's impossible or never done before, just more complex. The extra wear and tear on the barrel and the more complex thus expensive round makes it not a worthwhile endeavor for anybody not pigeon holed into a rifled gun.

Look like China in the right way, scrapped all type-59 won't be easy from money and time that get wasted, by the way China still don't have enough tank, the modern tank available still cannot compare in quality with western or latest Russian tanks.
But better hope they didn't upgraded type-59 too much, only in limited number, the rest make into HIFV llike Israeli's Namer or BTR-T. China will need HIFV in large scale conflict, offer more protection for troop and can engage better equipped enemy infantry, and support tank with anti-tank missiles. Ukrainian even make "BMP" from heavier tank :BMT-72 and BPMT project.

the frontal applique armour look thin, look like design to defeat RPG rather than kinetic round.
compare with "bra' armour box in T-55AM is 100mm thick .

against high performance shape charge, the applique armour is complete useless.
unless the armour is a sandwitch armour , ceramic tiles sandwitch between two armour plate.the ceramic tiles has to be at least minimum 5 inches thick.
during the mid 70's US army conduct a test show a 5 inches ceramic tiles can defeat TOW-1 missile.but this is legacy model, newer generation of TOW warhead has higher penetration .

last month, there is picture appear in the web showing PLA loading 105mm HESH round but with english alphabet!
with 105mm gun being phase out not only in UK,but also another countries such as holland and germany, there are million round of 105mm ammo being scrapped, scrapping the round can prove expensive.possible that China brought the surplus ammo from UK.since it prove to be much cheaper to buy it at a bargain price than produce it.

Norinco is offering upgrade T-59 call T-59P, this basically use T-59 chassic ,but with complete new wielded turrent.armed with 125mm gun,but according chinese mag.the tank do not include auto-loader similiar type-99 tank.according to engineer, the turrent ring simple to small .round has to be manually loaded. the tank appear tanzania military parade.
surprising,China unable to design a compact bustle auto loader or try to keep T-59P cheap to attract some third world client.

If the Americans didn't see the need for autoloader even for their M1A2, I don't an autoloader is really that much needed in the first place. Secondly, the T-59 is not a really big tank and space is limited, adding an autoloader would definitely cramp more spaces from the already small place and lessen the amount of ammunition.

Also, why do you want to increase cost by adding an autoloader that will complicate the entire design that are suppose to be simple in both maintanence and operation. You really think that third world clients would be able to afford that increase in price per unit of the tank?
