Su-30MKK belongs to 172th Brigade based to Cangzou, Agressors unit use 18.
Why 172. Brigade ?? (that would be a 78x3x-serial) The 20694 serial is clearly from the 18. Division ???

This is a 172. Brigade bird ... Su-30MKK 78036 - 172. Brigade - 4.jpg

@ Deino please
"PLA Air Force,
-1x Air Division is formed by 3x Regiment
-1x Air Regiment is formed by 3x Flying Squadron
-1x Flying Squadron is formed by 3x Squadron
-1x Squadron is formed by 3x fighter jets
You confirm it ? and presumably 3 sqns for big Rgts, less for others more small, because PLAAF get different size of Rgts have between18/35 combats aircrafts.

Interesting article on CAM ;)

Deino

Deino, i swear it, someday im gonna buy that book ...so keep the good work

only a small advice for next editions:
I see a lot of observation a descriptions ("The J-11 its armed with a single 30mm Gryazav-Shipunov GSh-301 cannon ...", " Establisehd in 1990 and equiped with j-6 fighters...")
and not much of the way of analysis, assessment and predictions. (like Ausieairpower assestments)
the latter being riskier, because you have to make assumptions, guesses and such...

Regards
Alvaro ;)

Hey guys - and girls too - what do You think about a special tread dedicated only to the latest unit-news ?

I know I am sometimes - o.k. always - a bit over-impatient and my interest in 5-digit serial numbers seems for a few either annoying or at lest more than strange ... anyway in mind of the latest images showing serial J-10Bs and J-16s I start this quest for "unit updates".

Open issues for me right now:

  1. what is the first operational unit for the J-10B ? (are there even more than one ?)
  2. what is the first operational unit for the J-16 ?
  3. what is the unit and base of the PLANAF Y-8GX-6 and KJ-500H ?
Other issues open ??? So let's begin.

Two more items: how will the PLAx structure UAV units? What's the structure of the helicopter force Xi Jinping promised as part of the 8,000 strong permanent UN Peacekeeping group?
