The exports of the aeronautical industry reached 7,164 million dollars during 2016, which means a growth of 7.2 percent, with respect to 2015 and the expectation is that a positive behavior is maintained mainly driven by the advance of the air transport of passengers , Reported the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA (link is external)).

Luis Lizcano, CEO of Femia said that the Mexican aerospace industry has a great opportunity for growth considering that demand for airplanes will double for the next 20 years.

"Air traffic is the engine of the industry. The increase from one year to the next in passenger volume, is equivalent to the total volume in 1970 and will continue to grow," he said in an interview with A21.
Of the total exports, 79 percent is destined for the United States, while 73 percent for imports comes from this country, reflecting the interdependence of both economies.

I explain that in the assembly and construction of an aircraft requires up to six million pieces from different parts of the world, so the supply chain of the aeronautics industry is one of the most globalized.

The expectation for the aviation industry in Mexico in 2017 is to reach exports close to 8 billion dollars and have about 60 thousand jobs in the sector.

Imports amounted to US $ 5.898 billion, an increase of 4.3 percent from US $ 5.653 billion in 2015, mainly from the United States.

As a result, the balance of the trade balance remains surplus and totals 1,266 million dollars at the end of 2016, according to joint data from the Ministry of Economy, the General Directorate of Heavy Industries and High Technology (DGIPAT) and the Bank of Mexico.

According to FEMIA statistics, industry in Mexico reported annual average growth of 15 percent from 2004 to 2016.

Argentina should have built the Pulqui II and not purchased F-86 Saber. That could have ensured the growth of the domestic aviation industry.
