Aerodynamics thread

I'm going to caveat everything I say with the fact that I'm not an aerodynamicist. If anyone wants to correct me they should feel free to.

I think you are pretty spot on with your understanding, especially on the part about close-coupled versus long-coupled canard.

Amen to that.....on a humorous note the Eng pegged F-15 as the late Mig-29, our favorite mods have sent him on a journey to a far country! guy has nine lives???

Holy cow, Hardware, Volleyballer and F-15 were all Mig-29???

I respect his tenacity, if nothing else.

Popeye banned F-15 for the stated reasons. He came back again as LukeSkyWalker, according to his own remarks to, "get in the last word."

No dice.

We do not need to clog up out threads with such nonsense. I have deleted all of Lukeskywalker's (aka F-15, aka Mig-29's) posts and interaction here.

Carry on.

Now that we've had another visitor to our aero thread, I wanted to address commercial/military large transport aero's as related to flying test bed engines etc, and changing engines. The mounts are usually fairly common, and for most of these projects, the pylon may be modified, but the cowling most always will be the major article of change. Through the years we have had various configurations for testing engines, mostly high wing pylon slung engines, but an occasional pylon built on top of a wing for needed ground clearance. So flying the WS-20 engines on the Y-20 will be no biggie when the time comes, particularly as the Y-20 has been designed to use the WS-20 from the beginning. The airplane should fly fine, and most flying differences can easily be trimmed out or adjusted by power settings???

To my knowledge, I don't believe we have seen any super-duper aero-dynamic devices association with the J-31, such as LERX or anything of the sort, other than leading edge slats and flaps? The old KISS seems to be very evident on this aircraft, which is rather comforting?

i also thought that FC-31 have LERX but there is just a hint of it... interesting thing were the vortex generated by the upper edge of the intakes... lets see what the production version brings new... i was really hoping to see progress on local engines .. especially ws13 or a new medium thrust engine (ws-17)
the display from FC-31 was encouraging considering the fact that it is the first prototype... risky but a message well delivered to the world..

I agree that flying the J-31 at Zuhai is both risky and gutsy, and while we both wish she had something other than those old smokey RD-93s, she does very well even with those, in spite of some commentary about her being "underpowered". I noted that she is not carrying the movable- up or down LERX devices associated with PAK-FA, and no doubt there are very likely vortex generators of some type, but they seem to be more along the line of traditional leading edge slats and "strakes", but I will definitely give the J-31 a little closer perusal... and welcome to the Sino Defense Forum fasiiih, there is a thread for new members introductions there, and we would all love to know a little more about you, and of course read the rules.

very nice response to my post by the way, and its always nice to have an informed discussion on the aeros of all these beautiful airplanes.
