A Growing Chinese Confidence

I was not talking about the extermination of aboriginals in large parts of Australia in the past, I was referring to the miserable position of them today. They have a life expectancy about ten years shorter than the Australian average.
Australia had a "White Australia Policy" not just in the '60's but from 1901 to 1973:

.
In that context many British children were deported to Australia where they often fell into the hands of farmers or religious orders where they were often physically, mentally and sexually abused.
The vision of many outsiders of the Australian policy wrt asylum seekers is pretty negative.
All together Australia has a rather poor reputation, certainly no better than China's. So Abbott is a fraud.

Here's somebody who is obviously upset at the new way China is trying to project herself.

Remember that old classic movie "The Manchurian Candidate," about brainwashing and mind control? Well, propaganda comes in all sizes, and China has just bought a piece of Times Square.
Next, might they want to tear down the iconic Hollywood sign iand put up their own hillside banner? It could happen.
As you know from media reports by now, Sinhua, the state-controlled propaganda agency of the Chinese Communist Party, has leased a long-term advertising logo space in Manhattan’s iconic Times Square, renting a huge LED sign called a “spectacular” in U.S. advertising parlance.
But Sinhua is not a brand. It is the mark of branded disinformation and propaganda, and Americans of all political stripes need to know that.
Like the former Soviet Union, China thinks that it can fool the Western world with glass skyscrapers, space flights and now, glowing Times Square signs. Do they have their eyes on Hollywood next? Beware.
I feel that West knows better — or does it?— and that Americans know that Sinhua is merely flexing its public-relations muscles as it tries to pull the wool over gullible eyes in America and Europe.
Sinhua is a news agency? Let’s be honest: It’s the propaganda arm of a one-party state in an undemocratic land ruled by fear, which uses trumped-up jail terms to keep dissidents in line. Sinhua is akin to the old Soviet propaganda machines of yesteryear. Remember TASS?
It’s one thing for Times Square to open its advertising space to private brands from across the globe, and surely Chinese brands like Haier and Levono are welcome to showcase their logos there. But a so-called “news agency” that prints blatant falsehoods and untruths about events inside China and in the West, and has the gall to call its workers “journalists”?
Whoever let Sinhua into Times Square ought to have his head examined. (Sorry about that, David.)

China says "trust" main challenge for relations with EU
(AFP) – 1 hour ago
BLED, Slovenia — The main challenge for China-EU relations lies in the lack of trust produced by Europe's "double standards", China's vice minister for foreign affairs Fu Ying said here on Saturday.
"The main challenge is the problem of trust, of suspicion of each other, of political rejection," Fu said in a a debate on EU-China relations at a conference in Slovenia's lake resort of Bled.
"For many Europeans, China is politically incorrect but, at the same time, it is economically correct," Fu said, speaking in English. "I do not know how that logic works, how can an incorrect political system produce correct economic results?"
"There are still a lot of remaining stereotypes of the Cold War. People have difficulties accepting that there is a political correctness in China," she said.
"Let's remove the unnecessary hurdles, the stereotypes, you do not know how much that is hurting your image in China," she warned.
Referring to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Britain in June, Fu said British Prime Minister David Cameron had warned that "only with improved human rights the economy can be more stable."
"Chinese people are all puzzled: obviously, the British economy is not stable," Fu said, referring to the August unrest that affected London. "You (the West) have double standards."
The European Union has criticized China on a wide range of alleged human rights violations, including the treatment of Tibetans, religious freedom and extra-legal detentions.
China is the European Union's second largest trading partner behind the United States and the biggest source of imports by far. The EU is also China's biggest trading partner.
"Europe does not recognize China as a market economy, but Europe is our largest trade partner, how can it be with a non-market economy?" Fu said.
"The EU cannot expect all states to meet all its standards... we are not applying for EU membership, we are only a trading partner," she added.

I don't think it's a bad idea. I'm sick of Hollywood movies where they always pair up an Asian women with a White guy, or Asian couple only to end with the Asian woman being stolen by a White man, or simply Asian men not having anyone. Let's not forget the rest of the Triads stereotype

Yeah, no kidding! How about seeing the same few Asian faces on screen for whatever Asian-looking role the script calls for, no matter if the character is Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Vietnamese.

Jet Li's Hollywood movies like "Romeo Must Die" and "Kiss of the Dragon" were almost avant-garde in that respect, what with him being in the lead male role opposite black and white female leads. Although I do get the sense that he's not comfortable doing overt displays of passion on the screen.

Re treatment of aboriginals: The government is damned if it does something and damed if it doesnt. Im specifically referring to the intervention by the federal govt in the N.T. to curb the sexual abuse of the children. The land was nationalised drugs, alcohol, and porn was banned.
The detractors focused on the need to suspend the "Racial Discrimination Act" to enable the targeting of the aboriginals.

Huh?, Australia grants asylum to 94% of the applicants that come off those boats. Im sure thats every bit as good as most other countries.
