Last Thursday the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 returned to San Diego after being stationed in Japan for 10 years.

The Kitty Hawk has been in continuous service since 21 April 1961.

The submarine sank at her mooring point in about 30 feet of water after a nor'easter struck Providence in April 2007. Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 2, a U.S. Army Dive Company and a Naval Sea Systems Command support unit used lift bags and pontoons, in combination with eight dewatering pumps to lift the submarine.
