An American Army Humvee rolled out from Combat Outpost Rabiy in western Mosul. American and Iraqi officials had called Mosul the last urban bastion of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, the homegrown Sunni insurgent group that American intelligence officials say is foreign-led, and other Sunni jihadist groups.

The submarine sank at her mooring point in about 30 feet of water during a nor'easter, which struck Providence in April of 2007. PACIFIC OCEAN (June 26, 2008) The aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) receives fuel from the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Guadalupe (T-AO 200) while steaming through the central Pacific Ocean. The ships will both be taking part in the 'Rim of the Pacific' exercise off Hawaii in July with units from Australia, Chile, Japan, the Netherlands, Peru, South Korea, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Taking part in RIMPAC will be 35 ships, six submarines, more than 150 aircraft, and 20,000 sailors, airmen, marines, soldiers and coast guardsmen. This will be Kitty Hawk's last exercise before returning to the U.S. mainland for decommissioning in early 2009. Kitty Hawk will be replaced by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) this summer as the only U.S. carrier operating from Japan. NAS LEMOORE, Calif. (July 1, 2008) Marines assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 465 exit a CH-53E Super Stallion at Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore. Marines with the Marine Medium Helicopter Training Squadron (HMMT) 164, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 268 and HMH-465 are conducting firefighting support operations in northern California as part of the 302nd Air Expeditionary Group. The purpose of the tour was to visit with their Marines at all of the detachments and check on the progress of various expansions they are working on.
