The Sailors arrived in New York Oct. 1 in preparation for their ship's commissioning ceremony in Manhattan Oct. 6. The new destroyer honors the late Lt. (SEAL) Michael P. Murphy, a New York native who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat as leader of a four-man reconnaissance team in Afghanistan. Murphy was the first person to be awarded the medal for actions in Afghanistan, and the first member of the U.S. Navy to receive the award since the Vietnam War.     SUBIC BAY, Republic of the Philippines (Oct. 7, 2012) The forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) is moored pierside in Subic Bay as the amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46) is moored in the distance. Bonhomme Richard and Tortuga are in Subic Bay to begin Amphibious Landing Exercise (PHIBLEX). PHIBLEX is an annual bilateral exercise held in conjunction with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and is designed to improve interoperability, increase readiness and develop professional and personal relationships between U.S. and Philippine forces.     DAHLGREN, Va. (June 21, 2012) The second of two Office of Naval Research (ONR) Electromagnetic (EM) Railgun industry prototype launchers is being evaluated at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. Both General Atomics and BAE Systems have designed next generation prototype EM Railguns capable of increased firing rates.     NEW YORK (Oct. 6, 2012) Sailors assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) run aboard the ship to man the rails and bring the ship to life during its commissioning ceremony. The new destroyer honors the late Lt. (SEAL) Michael P. Murphy, a New York native who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat as leader of a four-man reconnaissance team in Afghanistan. Murphy was the first person to be awarded the medal for actions in Afghanistan, and the first member of the U.S. Navy to receive the award since the Vietnam War. The ship will be based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The U.S. Navy has a 237-year heritage of defending freedom and projecting and protecting U.S. interests around the globe.     Yes..the USN calls it a 25MM chain gun..MK38 or MK38 mod 2. It will cut small craft to smithereens..

    And it's the Same Gun mounted in both the LAV25 Scout vehicle used by the USMC as well as the M2/M3 Bradly in US Army service
