Nope..just one cruisers for a exercise?
The April 22-27 Russia-China joint naval exercise, taking place in the Yellow Sea off China's east coast, involves a total of 16 vessels and two submarines from Chinese navy and four warships from Russian navy's Pacific Fleet as well as three supply ships being summoned for the exercise.

Slava class cruiser. Typical of Soviet doctrine. Huge first punch with those large ASMs...but they must be reloaded in port.
They made those ships to hunt US high value targets and then rush in to take their shots. Chances were, after those shots they were going to be dead meat, though they did have decent AAW defenses.
Now, in todays world, they are very potent ASuW vessels in any SAG if they are used that way.
They were building eight at the time the wall came down. There are now three in service...two of those only recently after very liong refits.
A Russian naval task group arrived at the eastern Chinese port city of Qingdao on Saturday for joint exercises with the Chinese navy, a captain said.
"Each vessel was welcomed individually," Captain Roman Martov told RIA Novosti.
The naval squadron, including the Varyag missile cruiser, three Udaloy class destroyers and three fleet support ships, will join 16 Chinese surface ships for drills in the Yellow Sea between Aril 22 and 27.
Chinese & Russian navies conduct anti-submarine exercise in Yellow Sea

As regards their main ASM armament, yes.
Like the Slava, the Soviets designed them to hunt US capitol ships.
HAving said that, the newer 956EM models can be used to fomr a strong SAG and do have decet AAW and ASW capabilities. PLAN has two of each...and since they operate mainly in the CHina Sea, not far from port, in any conrofntation there they would be a strong platform against the ROCN, ROKN, or JMSDF...and partilcularly decisive against the smaller navies like the Philipines and Vietnam.
Do not get me wrong, they are dangerous combatants and have to be respected. They were designed with very large, very fast main ASuW missiles...you do not want to get in range of those babies if you can avoid it.
A quick OT, I notice a lot of western people view the Fall of Berlin wall as THE BIG EVENT. But isn't the Legal Decompose of Soviet itself be more proper for THE BIG EVENT?
By the time German people hack the first brick from the Berlin wall, Soviet can still doom everyone's "brighter future". You have to count the fall of Soviet itself as the BIG EVENT, man.
Just saying.
Yes, legally you are exactly correct and the showdown with Yeltsin in Moscow with the tanks and protesters was huge in that context...and like the final nail in the coffin.
But the heart and soul of it happened when that Berlin Wall came down. If the Soviets had the power at all like they once had, they would never have allowed it, despite East Germany not being able or willing to stop it.
As it was, they (the Soviets) couldn't and once that happened, in the west, the rest was pretty much a fore gone conclusion. That's why we refer to it.
Actually, most people in the west use that event to refer to the whole set of events for the complete Iron Curtain coming down in so short a time, including the break-up of the Soviet Union.
The Udaloy class are first rate ASW vessels. Multi-purpose too...but really strong ASW DDGs. They are the one class the Russians have retained the most of. Of 15, eight are still in service.
By comparison, of the 21 Sovs, only five are left in service, of eight Slava Class CGs, only three are left, of the four large Kirov nuclear battle cruisers, only one is left in service. Three others claim to be in refit for activation by 2020...but because of that length, it is unsrue whether they will do it or not.
In the frigate class, their principle frigate was the Krivak of which 40 were built, only three of those remain in service. Of the seven newer Neustrashimyy class frigates, only 2 are now active.
So, when the Soviet Unipon collapsed, they had a total of close to 97 major, modern surface combatants...now they have 19. Huge decline. And these are not exercised nearly enough.
Attrition (though less) has also occurred with their submarine force. Of 30 kilos built, 14 are still in servive, with three building and another three planned. Of the 7 Alfa Class, all are retired. Of the 5 Sierra Class, 3 are active, of the 16 Akula Class, 10 are still active.
In the SSGN category, of the 14 Oscar class, 5 are active.
In the SSBN category, of the 14 Delta III Class, 5 are still active, of the 7 Delta IV class, 7 are still active, and of the 6 massive Typhoon class, 3 are strill active.
So with subs, the Soviets went from 99 acitve major submarines to 44 active subs today. All in all thats 196 active major combatants when the collapse hit to 63 today. That's a huge decline...and as I said, of those considered active, not nearly enough time is spent with them at sea and exercising or conducting normal operations.
Thanks for the data Jeff, but I though I read somewhere they have but only one typoon remain active duty?
Anyway, Real Admiral Yin Zhuo during an interview states that ASW is a nation's "core trade" kind of operation that will not easily share with others if they are only lip-service friend. The joint ASW training shows the degree of China and Russia to trust each other.
We live in hack of a interesting time when Yellow sea saw both the action of US-Korea joint excercise, and Sino-Russo joint training. SDF is such a non-bashing cyber space, let's all hope politicians all over the corners will not lead us to a too exciting time.
PS. I may damn wish to bluntly put it that it maybe need a joint excercise by the "commies" at the Caribbean sea for people to wake up that this world is going too far now.
I see, thanks Jeff.
I guess it is the difference of the emphasis of the symbol, the "Curtain" is right there in your eyes; for we to have a heavy feeling, just need to take a look at any map of that time to know what is "en-circle". You see to the mental victory, we look at the physical decompose.
OK, that's about the OT, thanks again.
