I doubt that that information would be available, as the PLA is notoriously secret about its military research and weapons development. I mean, they won't even say anything about the Varyag, or the Type 94. I doubt they would say anything about an EMP program if they had one.

This is from defence talk news that was posted in the forum. In the end of the article, it says that only a few country got rpg-29 delivered to them and one of them was China. I am just wondering, did China ever use it for a trial system for testing and also for research???

Problem is that there is range of different AA gun designs in these calibers… Depending on design and exact caliber range, altitude and especially rate of fire can be significantly different… So your question is somewhat to general…

Here is data for probably most common 40mm gun Bofors L70: rate of fire from 240 to 330 rounds per minute (depending on version), max. range 4750m, max. altitude 4660…

    Thanks, isthvan.

I meant the 40mm/L70 Bofors (which you got) and the 35mm gun from Switzerland, the system that China has.

Question for popeye: What is the normal number/percentage of helicopters onboard a CV/N?

    Sumdud wants to know;
Question for popeye: What is the normal number/percentage of helicopters onboard a CVN ?
When an HS squadron deploys on a CVN they have 6 SH-60 variants...Now if the air wing is devoid of S-3's(as will be the case in the near future with all CVW's) the air wing will add a detatchement from an HSL squadron of 4 more SH-60 variants for a total of 10 aircraft.

This is directly from the US Navy fact file.
""The Navy's SH-60F is carrier-based. The HH-60H, also aboard carriers and ashore, is used for search and rescue (SAR) missions. By 2015, the only models of Seahawk in the Navy will be the MH-60S and the MH-60R.""

Tico class crusiers carry a helicopter right? That would supplement any helicopters the carrier itself carried. By the way, what can you tell me about the Tico class. It never gets mentioned. Does it have ASM capability, or just TLACM and SM-2s? Lastly, isn't there an anti-ship version of the Tomahawk, called the TASM?

Finn, right now Tico class CG's carry two SH-60 helos. And since most Tico class CG's deploy with CSG's(Carrier Strike Groups) they do supplement the CVN's helos. The USN still has 24 Ticos in service.

As for the Tico's weapons suit these links should answer your questions.

Thanks. So it turns out they have Harpoons, TLACMs, SM-2s and ESSMs. Impressive. Everybody always talks about the Arleigh Burke, but the Tico seems just as capable. Do you know anything about the TASM?

    Re: Military FAQ thread

    Thanks, isthvan.

Popeye, what about the Sea Kings? Are those normally found only on shore?
Does the choppers play any role other than SAR, ASW, and VERTREP?

    To Shahid:
what do you mean by close combat fighting system? The gun? the martial arts?
