Obviously the Syrian Attack helicopters were a major asset to the SyAAF in this battle but the real reason that the Syrians stopped the Israeli advance in this particular battle was that they did what the Arab nations failed to do most of the time in the Arab-Israeli Wars; they punished the Israelis when they took risks. Both times the Israelis charged ahead (the first time rounding Lake Karoun and exposing their flank, the second time pursuing the withdrawing 10th Armoured) they left themselves exposed in order to gain more ground. The Syrians realized that and attacked the vunerable point rather than trying to stop the Israeli attack head on. It is a testament to the capabilities of the IDFs individual tank crews that they were able to turn fights that strategically should have ended with them cut off and annihalated into draws.
