What is this new commissioned ship

It's a new trial ship, like the famous 891. And there is no Sthealth features onboard...just to mention...

I checked all the photos of destroyers and frigates on Sinodefence, and none of them match this. I haven't heard about any new Chinese DDG designs lately. And I haven't heard of any ships with that pennant number. I checked Jane's and there was no info about this thing. And there's no info on the internet that I could find. This might be a totally new addition. Dongfeng should add this to the site. Where was this taken?

Like I said it's trialship, an auxiliary, not combatvessel of any kind...

Golly, What do you mean by trail ship? Is it going to be some sort of test platform? An unrep ship? Or what?

Looks kinda like a fat DDG without any weapons. No offense intended..Maybe the PLAN will be testing different type weapons systems on that ship.

yes a ship to test different VLS systems for future use and many other missiles

What I've read on other forums is it's a test ship for new PLAN toys. Supposedly people in other forums are waiting to see what gets installed on the ship to be tested to get an idea what's the PLAN got for the future.

My son's old ship USS Paul F Foster(DD-964) is a test platform for the USN. It operated as an DDG for several years.

Is this ship going to suceed 891, or merely compliment it?

Bte, they will not just test weapons, but the latest C4i and combat systems on board. This ship will might a mission similar to the norton sound

I don't really have any over head shot of this ship, but I know that China was testing out HQ-9 (the SAM on 052C) on 891. Recently, they finally just certified it after conducting the necessary tests.

Very nice configuration. And very good concept. Is the PLAN using this platform to test command and control concepts as well? Or only missiles?

Yes he did. the USS Paul F. Foster DD-964. The Foster was chosen to be the USN test ship because it had the MK41 VLS and updated systems. But above all it was chosen because of it's superior material condition. The day before it was turned over to the Navy test center at Port Huneme the ship made 32 knots. Outstanding for a 26 year old ship.

Back to this ship. It is very intelligent of the PLAN to comission a test ship. Very smart indeed. The labratory and classrooms and computer models are great training tools. But a real ship with real sailors and weapons is the very best way to train and test weapons and sailors.

I would think that they would put the command and control in there too or else they can't really have a full estimation of the system capability and such.

thats quite impressive considering the taiwanese knox and Gearing cant go faster then 20 knos with out risk of boiler explosion even after a long refit
