Based on this picture we have to question just how big the Type 056 is and there for it's cost.
Second pic in post #512 gives another perspective of the 056 relative to the bow of the 054A in the background. With the 056 moored alongside that concrete extension, does anyone with intimate knowledge of the shipyard have estimates of the length of that concrete extension? That could help provide some rough idea of 056's size. Also, anyone have a good pic of a Jianghu 053 alongside a 054A for comparison purposes? I wasn't expecting the 056 to be a large vessel at all, just wondering how much smaller it is compared to the old 053s.

Just grabbed this one from GE, remember 056 is expected to be approximately 500t lighter than the pictured 053H.

Here's a to scale comparison of the Type 022, Type 056 and Type 054A:

Thank you both for the comparo. Jeff, I've seen your scale before and it's a great chart, but are we 100% certain at this point, the 056 is 90m in length? The older 053s are minimal at 103m, so that means the 056 at 90m would be at least 20m or 60 feet shorter. That's a significant length reduction and if 500t lighter than the older 053Hs, would put the 056 in the 1000t range instead of 1500t. At that size, it would make its weapons suite more than adequate.

I have always believed that 056 has a standard displacement of around 1000t and a full displacement of between 1200 and 1300t.

Well, my scaling shows her coming up to just aft of the windows ont he bridge while the 053H comes up to the aft end of the main gun. So she is somehwat shorter. But I show her at 1,400t due to her equipment and other dimensions.

We'll have to see...but I believe she is a very decent OPV design and that the PLAN should and will build a lot of them.

Can someone tell me what will be the anti air missile for this ship? I heard HQ-10 or FL-3000, and what exactly is HQ-10?

Also does this ship carry on board sonar and torpedo?

    Re: Type 056 OPV/Corvette

We all know the 056 will first goes to HK garrison, all we need is some official acknowledgement...well here it is:

It's a very short mentioning, but that's the meat of this news: "the naval garrison is making preparations to introduce a new class of corvette into service"...don't know if that means we'll be seeing her debut in Labour Day openhouse next year.

Well, there you have it. I wonder, in total how many HK will get?

    Then where?

With an expectation of so many being built, ultimately you should see them all over the place.

Forgot to mention that statement came from the garrison commander.

As to the "how many" question...my guess is as good as anyone could - at least 2, though not that a far fetch that the current production batch of 4 will all goes to the HK garrison, meanwhile some of the 037-II pass on to other units to replace their respective obsolete old rust bucket.

And not that much of a far fetch idea that China want to go serious on the world's corvette market, the higher exposure potential of the HK garrison offers such an opportunity, to showcase and to redeem the negative impression that the world have on Chinese shipbuilding, especially when Thailand took the blunt back in the day...

    Re: Type 056 OPV/Corvette

BTW, Jeff, a thought just came through me...know that you've made a comparison picture of the 056's estimate size, mind if you could come up with one that it compare with the 037-II missile boat? See, if a 056 is about 2/3 of a 054, meanwhile a 054 plus a 052C almost occupy the entire length of the long parking berth of the Stonecutter Island Naval Base, it might be a good tool to make an educated guess as to how many 056 they can park in Hong Kong...

Pretty fast. Wonder if the segment beside it is another type 056.

Btw if the list we have not long ago is to be believed HK garrison may get 8 of these eventually, and another 8 for Hainan.
