It is very hard to believe that 056, reportedly, costs only 300 million RMB (US$47.6 million) a piece.

It is hard to believe. I would believe something double that number or thereabouts.

I wonder if its just the cost of the materials of the ship alone, not including the labor? Then again labor cost in China is still low.

I don't believe it costs RMB 300 million, at least not the first four. Eventually the scale of economics will drop the price but then again by that time PLAN may switch to an A version, so price for a 056 may never be that low.

Perhaps 2x the price of Type 022 which is $40M ... $80M sounds better to me :-)

It is certain that a copy of 022 costs RMB 98 million (US$15.60 million) without missiles.

RMB300 million price tag is too low, may be not taking into account electronics and weapons. In comparison our (Malaysia) new OPV all-in costs is nearly USD300 million each (include spares and training) which is more than RMB1,800 million.

My friend, my information is based on this video which reported that 022 costs around US$15 million and China is going to build 100 of them.

Well it's a Global Times reporting from Reuters, I mean, these guys are not the most reliable sources about PLAN, aren't they?

I know the person who took the first photo of 022 at Qiuxin back in 2004, the figures I heard back then was RMB 300 million a pop, this was due to all materials, including water jet and the aluminum alloy are imported from Australia. Over the years we have seen more and more domestic component, but I don't believe the price of a 022 has ever dropped below RMB 200 million.

Based on this picture we have to question just how big the Type 056 is and there for it's cost.
