Re: PLAN test new aegis radar.

btw, you might want to put the actual pictures there, since it's not showing up.
Someone claims that a picture with a new PAR radar is for 054A and you are calling it testing a new aegis radar?

And, if you bother doing a search, you would notice OPS-24 is a 2D search radar.

What am I saying? Even if it's for 054A, it's not the APAR that everyone has been dreaming of.

you should be putting this on imageshack and posting them here. There are plenty of image hosting sites that you can upload them to.

Oh oh, I guess the Americans will start to complain.

Anyway, I heard this radar is for the latest guided missile destroyers (hope I'm right anyway).

correct me.OPS-24 is first operational AESA radar, but is used hybrid circuit rather than modern monolith circuit.
hybrid circuit aside from large size also consume more power.

Re: PLAN test new aegis radar.

okay, so we finally get an update on what the aft mask on 891. And guess what, as I had predicted, they are putting Sea Eagle up there. Now, I can't be sure that it's the same version as the one on 054A, but it looks like PLAN is relatively satisfied with it as the volume search radar. And I maintain my belief that the much talked about MFR for 054 series is the Sampson-looking thing on top of the bridge of 891

You mean PLAN is so satisfied with 054A that they decided to put the its sensors back onto the test ship?

Well, to me, that's not a sign of satisfaction though.

I think it totally makes sense for them to put it on there. You want to test it along with the new MFR + FCRs. (system integration) And secondly, I suspect it's an upgraded version of Sea Eagle.

Re: PLAN test new aegis radar.

well, I think this warrants a new post. I just got some new pictures. btw, I will start off with 3 pictures of Top Plate/Sea Eagle
This is Top Plate from 052B

Compared to Sea Eagle on 054A launched in HP

and to 054A launched in HD

Finally, what we see on 891

Clearly, the one on 052B is different from 054A. Actually even the Sea Eagle on the two 054As look kind of different, although I think that's more due to the angle.

The one on 891 that just got installed seems to be different again. And interesting enough, it looks like they've installed that 054A-style VLS on 891. To me, they are testing out the air defense configuration with the HH-16 VLS + the FCRs + big MFR + the new Sea Eagle variant.

Re: PLAN test new aegis radar.

Yeah, quite obviously they are testing the whole suite of 054A's sensor plus the VLS. For what purpose I am not sure though.

I guess the true answer will be revealed some time later if a new ship, possibly a variant of 054, shows up with this configuration.

Re: PLAN test new aegis radar.

They've had the Aegis technology for a while. They've acquired through spies in the US. I remember reading this on TIME Magazine when they've reported about jaws clinching in the Pentagon.

Re: PLAN test new aegis radar.

top plate radar is not exactly state of the art anymore, new generation o naval radar trend is AESA.giving emergence of stealth missile and aircraft, AESA IS "must have" for naval ship.
there's strong believe that China may developing scale down version "Sea dragon" PAR (171) for future 054 appllication or Sampson type back to back AESA naval radar which is much cheaper.

Just because time magazine said it, then it must be true.
