Re: PLAN fleet support

Good job by the PLAN!!!

The USN has only 4 AOE's. That's not enough. Looks like the PLAN will pass the USN soon on this type of vessel.

Will comment more later. Gotta go to work..

so the USN only has 4 of these?!?!? im surprised they dont have like 12 or so....
About 15-20 years ago the USN had 5 AOE's and 7 AOR's. Then some genuis decided to build 14 fleet oilers and reduce the number of these mulit-purpose replenishmnet ships. It seems to work. All of the USN replenishment ships are manned by crews of civillian and some Navy personnel. It's called Military Sealift Command.

Military Sealift Command
The Military Sealift Command operates more than 110 ships around the world. These ships carry the designation "USNS" (United States Naval Ships) and are not commissioned ships. Also, they are crewed by civilians. Some MSC ships have small military departments assigned to carry out specialized military functions such as communications and supply operations. MSC ships carry the prefix "T" before their normal hull numbers

Re: PLAN fleet support

I will update the rest of the fleet support ships section in the near future.

I also have plan to create a section for other auxiliary ships as there are too many to put into one section. These include Yuanwang Space Tracking ships, Xiangyanghong series scientific survey ships, electronic intelligence ships, ice-breaker (often used for ELINT purpose) and other secientific ships which do not belong to the PLAN directly but have been constantly used for military-related missions.

The PLAN also has hundreds of smaller ships for different missions. It is almost impossible to collect any information or images of these ships. For example, tugs. However, I do wonder if anyone is interested in those non-combat ships anyway.

we would all love to learn about the workhorse ships of the plan. they might not get the same glory as the new destroyers or subs, but are a vital part of the plan.

Re: PLAN fleet support

Count me in. I agree, the "glory" ships cannot get their jobs done without the naval support. I say good job to the PLAN in this area so far. This particular ship QIANDAOHU from sinodefence looks to be a multi-purpose fleet resupply type. Very nice.

Re: PLAN fleet support

Nice pics Sczepan! Now that's what a "Blue Water" Navy can do!

I use to love "unreps"(underway replenishment)when I was in the USN. It is very intresting to watch ships go along side each other and refuel, re-supply or re-arm. On a conventional CV we did this sort of thing about every three days. On a nuke about 5-7 days. Generally we took on only fuel. Often times the CV would conduct flight operations while unrepping. On a CV sometime the ship refuels it's escorts or other nations ships. Refueling other nations ships is just a show in my view. Most ships now adays are gas turbines and run on JP-5..aka..Jet fuel....Which a CVN has plenty of.
