To me this looks like a rehersal rather than the real deal but the handover is near within the next few days. And i can still see three out of the four containers are still on board. Are they going to hand the ship over to the PLAN with those containers on board ? Perhabs when the workers left they forgot to take those three containers with them !

That definitely looks either like a practise session for the commissioning ceremony...or the ceremony itself. They are certainly getting her ready and she is all dressed up and made up, ready for the dance.

Except her handbag, with all the necessary implements of taking care of business, are not there yet. The aircraft. But they will come later and there is lots she can do, including working with the prototype aircraft, or early production aircraft to get ready for the full production ones when they are available...and of course working out all of the formational, and other hundreds and hundreds of tasks necessary to keep a large carrier in good working order.

Usually commissioning ceremony needs to be done in naval base and not in shipyard, right?

I expect the dressing to be take down and liaoning going to the base where she will be based and the actual ceremony will take place.

It is clear that the yardstick of measurement for this carrier is the US Navy. From the style of numbers painted on the hull to the paint job to even the manning of the rails just screams USN. But the moment of truth are J-15's conducting flight operations from the PLAN carrier.

A few J-15s taxing on the deck with a color-coded crew would really say alot. Not flight operations but just a few taxing on the deck would be interesting to me.

USN is known as the yardstick ever since the first picture of color-coded crew came out. Only a few members on this board refuse to believe that and insist China would operate the Liaoning in the manner of Russian operating the Kuznetsov.

I don't think this is going to be a commissioning ceremony but rather a handover ceremony from the shipyard to the PLAN. After which the PLAN is going to have full control over the ship. The shipyard did all they should and their job is done for now. The commissioning will happen much later as there is the small issue of flight qualifications with the J-15 that hasn't happened yet.

I don't see why a ship's commissioning (even a carrier's) needs to come after flight quals.

Following the example of an American carrier is the smart and wise thing to do. The one operational Russian carrier still has what could be considered an very low operational flight tempo and does not seem to be advancing in deck and flight procedures.

If you compare video of the Admiral Kuznetsov from several years ago to today they seem to be operating in slow motion. I look forward to seeing what the PLAN does with their version of flight operations.

USN would love it if PLAN operates CV-16 the same way Russians operate the Kunznetsov, because it'll guarantee the Chinese Navy will remain a second-class Naval force.

Real copters? Would be just not quite right if they use mock-ups for the commissioning ceremony.
They should fly the big shots to the carrier and make the landing. Big shot will came out of the copter and give a big salute to the bridge. And then everyone goes Yahoo~~!

I don't think those 2 helos one which is Z9 and Ka are mockups, it looks like the engine covers are on and they are for real this time!

I think the party is about to hit the road!
