Four different paint schemes of the Varyag.
On some the white line is extended to the end (I think it was originally marking the end of the 4th arrest wire)
On some the helo landing mark is white and some yellow.
Can't seems to tell difference between 2nd and 3rd pics though.

American naval aviators prepare for future carrier-based operations by training on the T-45 Goshawk. I wonder will the Chinese follow a similar route and use an aircraft with benign handling characteristics to learn carrier procedures. Crawl - walk - run. The J-15 may be a bit much for a pilot trying to learn how to land on a pitching, moving carrier deck

The Russians used the SU-25 as an interim carrier trainer. China would be wise to do the same. That is if they want to save aircraft and pilots lives
Maybe the Chinese will go this route. It would be the smart thing to do

it never ever cease to amaze me that a very small group of individuals (us) know far more about this topic than the very journalist with $$$, equipment, staff and research capital writing to potentially millions of readers!!!!
Kinda scary when the masses know not only so very little but are actually often times fed innacurate 'facts'. I'm sure this happens to 90% of news reporting out there. We're no affected because we are diligent and unbiased but what about on other topics where we aren't 'experts' in and get most of out info from so call journalists and newspaper reporters?? Yikes!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, is the JL-9 shorter than the standard J-7?

Brazilian Navy operate A-4 Sky Hawk on their aircraft carrier, a Vietnam war era attack jet, but their airforce has nice Super Tucano prop engine trainer and AMX jet which can be used as advance jet trainer.
China Navy could use the new Sino-Russia joint venture CJ-7 basic trainer, then K-8 intermediate jet trainer on land bases if they decided to be independent of PLAAF's training facilities, then JL-7H and/or L-15 on carrier deck and finally on J-15.
I remember listening to a BBC farming program one Sunday morning about fifteen years ago pretending to be breakfast conversation in this case with the then farming minister in the UK cabinet John Gummer who told us listeners that he believed everything he read in the papers except where it concerned British farming. There he knew it was all nonsense.
