I'm referring to the appearance of the flight deck. there are no tire marks that are left by touch and goes.I bet there is, just that nobody dare to release it. US intel will not release it just for the sake of us forumers, right?
And if there are pictures why not release them? what's the big secret? Operating a carrier is no secret. the USN has been operating carriers for 90 years.

ahh no it's not.. not after a Navy has been doing carrier operations for 90 years.Indeed, it's a big secret.
edit....Lion, you are correct in a way.. the secret is how far China has advanced on CV operations in such a short period of time. None of us really know where they stand. That's the secret!.I just wish the PLA as a whole was just a little more transparent.

Lucky for you I'm a nice guy.See those dark streaks on the paint? That is evidence of arrested landings and touch and go's.

Yes, I know that dark streaks. I am looking for it on exVaryags deck since the first sea trial. But I can not imagine, if it is proofed, that no landings took place, if I can not see them. I would like to see a picture of an US carrier from quite a distance, that has only a couple of landings, to compare.
If I can see dark streaks, than there was a landing.
If I can not see dark streaks, the status is uncertain.
Here is a high res pic of her after returning from her last trial (the one supposedly with the fireworks upon returning).
Look at the deck, particularly aft wher the landing area is marked out in white and red. It is very, very clean and distinct.
PLAN AIRCRAFT CARRIER
Now here are a couple of pictures of US Carriers, one, the newest in the Fleet, CVN-77, The USS George Bush. Notice the after area where the aircraft land. How even the white landing area markings are discolored and look very faint. This can even be seen more clearly on the overhead shot.
They are so faint because of all of the landings marks and scuffs from the aircraft tires.
If even a few landings had occurred on the PLAN Carrier there aft, you would be able to tell and see them. The marks are unmistakable.
US NIMITZ CLASS CARRIERS
Tell me, how many touch downs made?
Touch_down_or_not.jpg
Non, one, or more?
Depends on when and where the picture was taken.
Is she at sea after exercises conducting flight ops?...if she was, it would not look like that.
Is she just completing an overhaul and been in port during that time?...then probably none.
In the pictures I showed, the context is clear.
The two US carriers are at sea performing air ops and they have been conducting landings. The evidence of how that makes their deck looks is obvious.
The PLAN Carrier is returning from a nine day (or something like that) sea trial and her deck is SO clean that is it most likely she did not conduct any landings at all. Which is also obvious.
The picture you have shown shows a single helo in a position that appears to be near a couple of the trap lines with no apparent scuff marks, though the deck looks wet and they may not show as well. There are also no aircraft on deck to be seen. When US carriers are out on operations, they will usually have numerous aircraft scattered about, either parked or moving in those areas. And if they have been conducting air operations...well then, I already showed you two pictures of how they would look in that case.
My guess is that this carrier either just went therough some fowl weather and is not conducting air ops at the moment...or, she's on her way back in or out. But that's just me. I know this, if she conducts very many traps, then it is obvious on her deck.

It's possible for one or two landings to have occured and not notice it...but that is why I said if a "few" had occured you would see it. If they did so many as five or six, I believe you would see it.
If they did one or two, you might not, though that is a pretty high res picture and I think you could probably see the dark tire marks against the gray landing areas.
I think when they start, they will do more than one or two. To fly out that distance and spend the time, money and effort, I would think they would get in more than one or two during a nine day exercise to make the most of the time and truly certify the aircraft for the carrier...othjerwise it is a waste of toime and money. I would expect quite a few.
When they US tested non-production aircraft like the F-35B onboard a Wasp Class, or the first Super-Hornet tests aboard carriers, they usually fly two aircraft out and do multiple landings and take-offs for certification (this is not the same as training pilots or ships crew, this is test pilots certifying that the aircraft can actually work off the carrier). I would expect the PLAN to do the same.
A couple of aircraft for several days making maybe four or five landings and take-offs each. In that case, you would see it.
