Let me rephase again. As I understand, a normal SU33 carry less fuel and weapons during a ski jump takeoff.
Will thrust vector improve this situation?.
Believe it or not, it could take off with a full load. Rosoboronexport offered some figures about it to the Brazilian Navy. In the future, Brazil's intends to buy TWO 50,000 metric t aircraft carriers and the Admiralty Shipyards of Saint Petersburg wants to participate in the bid. They offer a ski jump design and proves that CTOL is not really necessary and could be an unnecessary complication. I must say that Brazilian pilots don't share designer's visions and prefer to use catapults at take offs.

Can't bite on things that lack of evidence, bro...nothing solid came out on the J-15 indicate that it won't suffer performance degradation due to ski-jump takeoff method, as well as the "improvements" mentioned were all lacking official evidence; same goes with the 095 SSN and SLCM...look, if China have mastered the SLCM technology you'd bet we've already seen live fire footage about it by now.

The most annoying aspect of anything about China's military is that stuff posted online are nigh impossible to separate facts from fiction, which you and I should've known better.

I wonder if the UK will be on the bid as well? They can make the Queen Elizabeth class CV with ski jump instead of STOBAR.

Well, thats been the case, in the past, but the J bird has been out front, I think they would like to have it both ways, show off success, keep a lid on probs.

Re: PLAN Carrier Operations..News, Videos & Photos

of course su33 can take off with full load, but not in most situations. i have once calculated the speeds it could attain, the effect of ski jump, etc, and got a minimum of 23 tons loaded weight from front position and 28 tons loaded weight from the back position. That was calculated with wind over deck of 25 kts. So i can believe that with a decent wind and ship sailing near top speed, su33 can approach its theoretical max take off weight.

But in practice one cant often count on 50+ kts of wind over deck speed, nor is always launching strike/intercept packages from the single, far back launch position the prefered option.

That being said, i think even 23 tons is actually quite decent for medium range intercept missions, and a small strike package could be configured for decent ranges having 28 tons to work with at take off. J15 should be able to improve on that by a slight, perhaps negligable margin.

There's no question that it will not be able to take off with a full payload, but it won't be as limited as the Su-33 straightly due to its more powerful engines and use of lightweight fuselage, therefore upping its thrust to weight ratio. The photos of the plane shows olive parts on the fuselage; those are the lightweight materials used on the fuselage. And we know of the thrust of the WS-10. Speaking of missiles, even if they did fire them I doubt they would be posted on the internet or even seen by anybody besides the top brass.

Negative, the one missing is the fourth trial between Jan 7th and Jan 16th, it departed at 7:30PM under darkness so only AIS screen capture is available. Here is also a return trip pic from CDF.

Hmmm , that's really strange, why so much confusion ... ???

As such can we agre that this is the most correct list so far:

    1. 10 August 2011 – 13 August 2011 = 3 days
    2. 28 November 2011 – 10 December 2011 = 12 days
    3. 20 December 2011 – 29 December 2011 = 9 days
    4. 7 january 2012 - 16 january 2012 = 9 days
    5. 19 April 2012 – 30 April 2012 = 11 days
    5. 7 may 2012 – 16 may 2012 = 9 days

OK then, so if we all agree on Deino's numbers then the ex-Varyag has been out at sea for 53 days in the past 8 months.

Too bad that China couldn't get her hands on this one. If this had sailed out instead of the ex-Varyag that would have been something.

Varyag is not bad.. It is still a very big carrier. With the Granit missile compartment remove. It will free up more storage space. At least its better than what the India Navy has.. Its front bow is capable to launch 2 fighter in quick succession compare to the India one which can only launch one at a time unless it wants to sacriface the angle recovery runaway.

this shows how serious the learning curve is for China in terms of carrier development, i mean thats 6 trials in 9 months and almost 2 months at sea, there must be lots and lots of things that need fine tunning and constant adjustments to refine the carrier
