If PLAN need to use J-15 for long term CV uses, it need to build a Carl Vinson size CV. J-15 is simply too huge to accomodate a single regiment.

Well, with no jump ramp, three cats, three elevators, VLS for missile defense...IMHO, it's clearly no attempt at the ex-Varyag.
It does look a lot like some of the other artwork and models out there of the indegnous PLAN carrier, Probably displacing 80,000K+. But not a nuke.
The twin seat J-15S under design could still offer some "university" level training on carriers or on land based ones, since putting one in a JL-9 and a J-15 are quite different.

If Huitong is right and the first one is launched in 2012, then I doubt it will be much different due to the unavailability of more powerful turbines and thus hampering the goal of a flat top.
Just Wait Few More Days, You Will See It!

It depends on how much firepower the PLAN officials want. For the South China Sea, I personally think 25 J-15 per ship is more than enough to handle enemy forces. And secondly, I do no think the J-15 will be for long term use; it is likely an interim for a more advanced and possibly VLO plane under design.
While I certainly agree with your first statement, I believe the J-15 is a very outstanding carrier aircraft and I hate to say it it, but if I had to fly one or the other off the ship, I'd prolly choose this over the F-35, I think the J-15 will make a fine aircraft for the long term.
