Latest Varyag Pics

Looks like the superstructure will be painted next. Alos lots of people on the main deck.

I've seen one of those pics a couple of weeks ago. To me it looks like a lot of work has been done to the flight deck. I was a shambles in the first pics I saw of the ship a few years ago.

Imagine the reaction if the flight deck markings were painted? Oh boy there would be some happy campers in this forum.

I can't wait to see the final result. I do believe it will be an CV or LPH. Anybody have any idea what the name of the ship would be?

It is clearly being prepared for something...and with this color scheme and the development of their area air defense DDGs, I can;t believe it is to just sit around somewhere.

Oh yes there would be. I guess we will find out in what looks like the relatively near future. The PRC would love to show this thing off during the Olympics.

Is it a standrad procedure to paint the superstructure last?

There's still a few years to the Summer Games, but I can't imagine they would have finished her until that... But who knows? Perhaps the painting is the only thing left before comissioning Let's wait and see, this sure looks interesting.

I can't say. But it is interesting as you have said.

Well all the newest PLAN warships have been in similar "color" shape where the superstructure is dark red...

But i'm personally getting more and more covinced that Varyag will be commissioned and i dare to say that it going to end up being fully operational...tough spending first decade (or little less) as a training purpose. Many here suggest that Varyag is going to be used some sort of training ship (or floating barge) but not as a operational carrier. I don't agree whit that. PLAN and whole china is rising in fast rate and best thing to do is get operational aircraft carrier floating as soon as possiple. Varyag is the ideal solution, producing indegenious carrier starting from scrats will not be operational before 2015 even in the most positive speculation. Wheter the Varyag would be really operational, meaning fully fuctional airwing and so on is irrelevant, even Russians don't have full airwing in Kuznetsov and they being operating it since 1991...Aircarft carriers whitout need for global police work are really just icons of superpower status, just like Nuclear subs and Nukes in general. It's clearly evident that Varyag along isen't sufficient enough and need for indegenious desings are existing. But when those ships are ready, Varyag have already prooved it's value as chinese first carrier and carriercapaple airwing is ready for new decks...

golle, the russians have only really used kutznv since 95-96, since it got a major rehaul.

Nice pictures...one questions though, did PLAN always paint the superstructure red?

It would be very, very difficult to keep the building of a ship that size a secret. Too many workers, and too few places that could handle it, all under watch from US satellites.

My thoughts were that the red was a primer and that the superstructure is yet to be painted.
