What is the point in covering in the real one if everyone already saw the design of the mockup?

While I agree that this new plane is based off a flanker, it is obviously dissimilar enough to receive an entirely new designation.

If it receiving the J-15 name, shouldnt we expect it to be heavily modified from an Su-27?

I'm not too sure about the WS-10A's size, I can't tell any real difference from before..
The nose can be canted for improved carrier landing view for pilots, stealth, or AESA radar (like the J-10B).
I can't really tell if there are canards or not...

For the naming, I thought that the J-11BJ was just turned into the J-15, and the two designations are somewhat synonymous, I wouldn't think too much about it.

If you've seen the fighters at the airport maintenance, some rest time the fighter's nose is wrapped canvas.

I think some of us who can read chinese texts have not summed up all the related information, especially if we look back at what have available in the past year.

As other posters provided, official chinese news, ignored by everybody in china 1 year ago, had clearly stated that china's main surface war ship design institution 701 has won contract to build itself a "general integration platform" at HuangJiaHu. From then on there has been news reports (drown in numerous chinese daily news reports) about this project.

Unofficially, certain WuHan local BBS has been talking about this construction for months already. Nearly 2 months ago when pictures of this construction site surfaced on major chinese BBSs, almost everyone ignored it as yet another amusement Park.

But one month ago when the unpainted island has taken shape, couple of people have taken notice, and coincidentally rumors started to float that Varyag's island was going to be changed.

Last friday, it's proved that Varyag is taking shape like this land model. That has sent hundreds of WuHan local fans to HuangJiaHu.

So, if anyone wants confirmation, why not get a ticket to WuHan and spend another US$1 for a bus ride to HuangJiaHu.

We have a bunch of new pictures coming out taken on the building itself by a the Chang Jiang Newspaper. It's amazing that they allow so much to be taken so up-close.

Hmm... I say it definitely shows that the Chinese are very much interested in getting the Varyag operational. I mean, why go to all the trouble of refurbishing the hull, making major modifications to the island, conducting long term dry docking for unknown work, and building a test and training facility which looks exactly like the deck of the Varyag?

all in Chinese, just describes that the structure looks like a replica of Varyag. It's located at 中国舰船设计研究中心新区. The new zone of the 701 Institute.

Also, Z-8 does not look like a mockup at all.

I think the plane/J-15 is probably a mock up.

The surface of the plane (in the close up/underneath shot of it) looks too smooth and looks to me like it was molded from plastic..
the landing gear and surface in general just lacks detail.

Also if it was a real plane, how would they have gotten it on top of the building in the first place (either by elevator or helicopter, we haven't seen evidence of the former, and I'm not sure if China has any helicopters which could take a heavy weight fighter like a flanker deriative). Therefore I'm thinking the plane is a mock up.
