for skip-jump training, they have other place, the deck is shaking, and located in north-west of China, that area always bad weather, havy wind, I saw that picture and article for long while, I can not find it in the sit now.
for those pictures what nemo show, the article said is CV research center in Wuhan, the city is located in the Yangtze River. I think their main research CV air commend and control, and test some other operation. that deck set by nearly for research, not for training.
China also has another largest CV research center in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, beside the very large lake, to research CV contruction.

By appearances a mock-up (maybe?) of what looks a new fighter has appeared on deck of the Varyag mockup(?). Maybe someone with better eyes can tell but it looks like this one has a broader hump on back than a normal Flanker.

Nice..I don't for one minute thinks it's real... Very well done however. What would be the purpose of building a CV deck/island on the roof of a building when it could be done on land? I could see it if you really wanted to use it..but..

What's that plane on top of that building? Look like Su-33 to me...

To Popeye: I think that building is there to simulate the hanger, there are probably elevators installed and more mock aircraft models inside the building. Still a little ghetto for a CV simulation setup I think.

It's a mock up according to China Defense Blog, meant for basic carrier training. It looks everything's still under contruction.

from my eye, the building design like CV,the building portion of the island is defferent design with the main building, and the fly deck is extension out of the main building, the fly deck is supported under some struture.

according to XINHUI (CDF) #spotted off Wuhan, near some lake.

Its definitely a flanker of some sort on there. What type? We'll its far too difficult to tell, especially with that tarp over it. From the looks of it though (the tarp is distorting a lot of features) the nose looks more canted downwards than the usual J-11/Su-27?

Likely to be a naval flanker, in 2nd pic it's loaded with YJ-81 or 83 ASM. missile pic

The rear half definitely looks like a regular Flanker. But the forward half looks like it has more girth for what looks like a single-seater. The forward landing gear is now in between the intakes that look to be extended forward more than on a normal Flanker.

Or maybe the whole island's just a test bed for stuff which would be put on the actual Varyag.
