What exactly does that have to do with anything I said?

I can't think of any country specifically using a dedicated helo carrier other than Japan and that's only because of politics. I imagine China would be developing some Harrier-type fighter-bomber if they were constructing a light carrier.

One day (maybe soon) we will know what their plans are in more detail.
It's not like they just bought some full-service carrier. As far as I'm aware the Varyag was stripped of its powerplant, its electronics, and its weapons so China will have to put all those in place and it's likely they'll be using mostly, if not all, domestically-built equipment. Many of the countries we're talking about with carriers are buying all that from some other country. Also again most are building much smaller carriers. The experience gained is simply not the same. As for China's goals they're probably similar to what their goals were with other purchases. Get experience with a weapon in order to develop one domestically.

You stated that when the Varyag was commissioned it would "leapfrog" the other carriers.

Quote:
So when the Varyag is commissioned as an active carrier it will leapfrog all of these countries.
As I've stated many times sailors need be properly trained to operate any ship. Espically a CV. I stand on that statement. It may take China 3+ years to train up a crew for a CV.

My first thought: place for air traffic control, but no fighting radars. Varyag is becoming a real and only training ship.

I don't know how the PLAN will place their ATC. But on USN CVs the ATC is placed on the deck below the flight deck. Not in the island.

Yeah. it appears to be so. My guess is that the removed struture was too decrepit to be refurbished. They just replaced it.

well, if you look at that spot and the photos on 052C before was installed, they clearly match. I'm not just talking about the left side of the island, but also if you look carefully enough, there is another section set up to install HLJG-346

I agree, not only the radar panel will be installed on the front slanted portion, two panels will also be installed on the side of the bridge, like this:

Really? I don't think so. Being that close to active radar will fry your balls and maybe your brain. I'm not kidding...

In the USN when men go aloft in port to work on the radar it is off. So they won't get fried.

And don't ask me about the radar on a Tico because I don't know how it works.

How about the radar on the Gerald Ford class carriers? From drawings, it seems like it's going to be placed on the island as well... And they're AESA radars too.

I checked..you are right.. There must be some sort of dampening shield in place on the CVN-78 class and a Tico.

By the way the CVN-78 still has a mast.

The radar on 052C destroyers are pretty close to the bridge too, I'm sure they have some kind of protective shielding device to prevent the crew from getting microwaved.

you mean constructing the walls from lead, to block out the frequency rays that burn your brain cells. you just need a material with high density.
